Not true, he would lose the dual channel functionality if he did this, which would hurt performance! The only option would be to find an identical 2x2GB kit to the one you already have (assuming you have enough ram slots), then dual channel would be kept. IMO don't bother investing any more...

Hmm their 6970 sample shows 1600 shaders, and their 6950 1440. Old version GPUZ perhaps?

Don't go by bus width, go by performance! Go for the quickest you can afford. If I were in your shoes I'd probably go for the GTX 470
