also bear in mind that to utilise both sockets you will need to use Xeon not I7's which means 8 cores.

what i want to know is how does the cabling for the drives work. looks like it would be very messy. or would all the SAS/SATA ports link up to a backplane that goes to a JBOD rackmount? Though i do believe part of this is moving away from Virtulisation and every VM actually runs on its own...
