    Linpack Xtreme Released

First of all, I'd like to thank OP for putting in the work to do this. I had to pass on OCCT because their stress test with AVX ran too cool -- about 10c cooler than LinX 0.6.5. LinX 0.6.5 advertised itself as running AVX2, so I thought that was the best you could get. I have looked through...

    Ever bake a heatsink?

"Vice is a practice, behavior, or habit generally considered immoral, sinful, depraved, or degrading in the associated society. In more minor usage, vice can refer to a fault, a negative character trait, a defect, an infirmity, or a bad or unhealthy habit (such as an addiction to smoking)...

    Ever bake a heatsink?

A stock heatsink. It's like baking a vise. Hmm. I have heard of people baking a file or a hacksaw blade into a cake for prisoners.

    PWM Gentle Typhoons?

Over on OCN there is a thread about how a reseller did a special order. He ordered a 2150rpm GT that uses PWM control. The model number would be D1225C12B6YP-xx. I am not sure what the xx would be: each customer has a custom number; the plain Jane fans are -00. HTH

Silent aio cpu cooler for a i7 4790k at 4.5ghz

I was about to comment about that. I have a 4790k running at 4.5GHz . . . with a VID of 1.190v resulting in a Vcore of 1.212v. I'm in the middle of testing, but for the interim I would highly recommend a Noctua NH-D15 with both LNA's attached. I get 32dBA (@ 1m) in a 30 dBA basement. 30 dBA is...

Are 4790k easily stable at 4.5ghz?

Actually, I meant TB was not needed. Sorry for the typo. As for the rest of what you said: all I know is that you set the multiplier to X, and it goes to X. A default chip installation would be at 4 GHz, and run up to 4.4 GHz on load. In the case of the GA-Z97X Gaming 7 board, the speed was...

Are 4790k easily stable at 4.5ghz?

I bought a Gigabyte GA-Z97X Gaming 7 board to go with my new 4790k. The "Optimized Default" automatically OC'd the chip to 4.4 GHz, without Turbo-Boost. I observed the VID, set the VID to 1.19v. Now I run the thing at 4.5 GHz with VID of 1.19v and the Vcore at 1.21v. So I'd say yeah, 4.5 GHz is...

    CPU Led red

Old school cheap fix: Wipe your drive and reinstall Windows from scratch. Maybe it works. Maybe not. But costs you nothing but time.

Making my Rosewill Blackhawk colder, less noisy

Get one set of four of this vibration isolator for each fan. Takes a lot of noise away. Costs $4/set and svc sells them with free shipping. These are the best vibration isolators I have ever found, and I have used them all.

    Tips for fan choices

Yate Loon makes a nice 140mm blue LED fan. JAB-Tech is running a closing sale, so they are $3.20 each while they last. I bought four. Do buy several. Since they are . . . ahem . . . inexpensive fans at the best of times, they do vary, so buy about double what you need so you can weed out the...

    Most WTF cooler?

Hosted by Tigerdirect: a Cooler Master Z600R. Hmm. Since I don't seem to be able to upload a pic, here's another from Tigerdirect:

It's pics like this that motivate me to get inside my machines to clean them so they won't look this bad.

This case ALMOST makes me wanna get an Alienware. Almost...

It's too bad the front surface has room for only one fan. If there were a 120x240mm or 140x280mm space there, you could fit in a double rad, do some overclocking and have some fun. Yeah, make that front space compatible with a two-fan rad, and it would be a worthwhile case.
