Expect the X2 model to come a bit later, but much sooner than any opposition from their rivals. Word around town is that Nvidia is really worried about this cycle as they know they were caught with their pants down and have a good idea of the quality ATI is putting out this round.
September 24th is most likely the actual date. Two weeks after the PR event is what I am hearing.
Using a 4850x2 in a machine right now and its a solid card, but yes at this point you may as well wait. Prices should come down across much of the board and the new tech may surprise people...
Ya just wait 4-5 months while your games sit there in a less than playable state in hopes of better performance...
Or, you could just buy the amazing 4890 already and not worry about it.
With the rumors of a 5xxx in early September you may want to wait that long but another 4-5 months for...
The 4850 will be right in line with your needs, around $100, and it will fit your PSU just fine. I would go down that route. If you need to go even cheaper consider the low power, but strong performing, 4670 from ATI.
If you insist on upgrading, definitely go 4890 at that price. Even at the same price the 4890 performs on par or better in more games than the 275, let alone when overclocked.
Has this lived up to everyone's expectations when it comes to overclocking? Seems ATI could have easily released this at 900mhz without a worry but now at 850mhz it seems like a great overclocker. Not that that is a bad thing, but it seems to be a damn good value.
Can someone pass along that bios and flash info from Sapphire?
No one via Sapphire tech seems to know about this bios and suggest I am making things up about its existence.
Any help would be appreciated.
