    Newbie - Need advice overclocking i7 960

just ran about 2 passes of memtest86, no errors. Not sure what the deal is now, maybe those games just have nasty crashes for some reason. Portal only crashed on me once, right when it was loading...

    Newbie - Need advice overclocking i7 960

Ok, QII just crashed again with stock settings. So either that EGL engine sucks, or my memory is broken. I have yet to test Fallout New Vegas for crashes... though that one might be crashing because I had to force vsync off in the .ini file to get rid of annoying mouse lag. Sometimes the...

    Newbie - Need advice overclocking i7 960

OK, recently I've been having problems with various games and crashing. Fallout New Vegas crashes with a windows error "this application has stopped working" and the sound continues to loop, Portal has the same problem, and Quake II with the EGL engine has the problem. I turned off the GX mode...

    Newbie - Need advice overclocking i7 960

Yes, my memory is actually 1600mhz. Not sure why I said 800 before. I got to 4ghz pretty easily with 1.35 vcore and 1.35v qpi/dram. Tested stability with LinX and it passed, the max cpu temp was 75C. I might push it further later. Thanks for the replies, this actually isn't too much...

Gonna try getting some pics tomorrow. My camera is horrible so they might just be blurry and unreadable but I'll try.

    Newbie - Need advice overclocking i7 960

Just upgraded my rig again, from an amd phenom II 550 to a core i7 960. I had overclocked the phenom II before and that was pretty simple. just raised the FSB and lowered a few things. Now this seems quite a bit more complicated than socket AM3. my motherboard is ASUS Sabertooth x58, i...

    Flashing HD5870 Problems

Yes, I can adjust it to 50% within there... but it doesn't seem to kick up the speed at all... I had set it to the lowest possible, 20%, to see if it would dynamically adjust the speed past certain temps. It got to around 80C and the fan speed remained 20%.

    Flashing HD5870 Problems

Hey all, so I recently bought a new HD5870 after my old one was having problems (capacitor buzz, high temps), and I wanted to flash the BIOS to make the fan speed idle at default 50% instead of 20-22%. Here's the exact model I have...

    Screen Capture/Recording Software

Hi all... I've been bored lately and looking into the concept of recording myself playing games and uploading them to youtube. I have no experience with video editing or anything like that however. I want to make some compilation videos of cool frags/kills in FPS games like Quake/Unreal...

Need aftermarket cooler for Radeon HD 5870

I'd rather not have to wait 2 months for RMA, in the mean time i'll probably have to run with some shitty video card or just not have a computer at all... I'm looking into the Gelid Icy Vision

Need aftermarket cooler for Radeon HD 5870

Hey all, been having some problems with my new HD 5870. I'll be playing a game for around 2 hours or so when all of a sudden I hear the fan speed kick down and I'll get like 2 frames per second. I alt-tabbed out of the game and came back in, the framerate was fine for about 30 seconds or so...

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion "crashing" / 2sec freezing

Great news. Turns out the problem was the GX setting in the Asus Xonar D2X settings. Turning that off solved everything, theres also no more crashing on exit. I suppose Asus never ironed out the bugs with that function. It doesn't seem to affect sound quality much anyhow, so I'll just leave...

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion "crashing" / 2sec freezing

I may have found the cause to my problem. I was suspicious that it was my Asus Xonar D2X causing the problems, so I disabled sound and music in the Oblivion.ini file. bMusicEnabled=0 bSoundEnabled=0 The game didn't crash after about 20 minutes of playing, however, after I clicked Exit game...
