I had a similar problem with 2 maxtor 80 GB, and the problem was a PSU. Formated them, changed the PSU, and they are still OK, no sounds later.

Well, temp is OK, not overclocked, yeah, it's dieing... Will try to do a volt mod, maybe it will extend it's life for some time.

I did underclock the core to 300, but the same thing happens. So, it's time to buy a new one...
