It surely wouldn't hurt, but to the best of my knowledge, no. As for the size of the cache, the E6600 definitely has 4 MB and its price is still very reasonable (hope Intel doesn't change it).

That's just it. Your CPU needs 2.95 GHz to score 13k while Conroe gets 16.7k on 2.72 GHz.

Apparently it really has 4 MB of L2 cache because it's an engineering sample (ES) processor.

The previous WR was held by an FX-60 clocked almost 1 GHz higher... insane.

The roadmaps indeed do say it should have 2MB... well... either CPU-Z is wrong... or it has 4MB afterall ;) The voltage is wrong for sure (more like 1.15v).

Like I said, AMD has to cut the price of its FX-60 (and not only) at least by half to stay in the game. This is a $240 chip that will probably get cheaper soon enough after launch. Oh yeah, the OC was achieved with a P4 stock cooler.

Not bad... but where are the benchmarks?

I personally wouldn't mind 25 GFlops of extra performance :) Questions are, how efficiently can it be used and, of course, how much will it cost.

AMD CPUs have been, for a long time, both faster and cheaper. Nowadays they are not necessarily cheaper any more and if the new gen of Intel CPUs come out, they may also lose the performance crown. So what can (should) AMD do? Release a processor to compete with Conroe at a similar price...

And what will they do when Conroe comes out? Raise the prices again?
