    RMA process...submitted the RMA request online and they approved it in less than a day-- sent the old board, took them about a day or two to confirm/validate the issue-- I received notification the new board was shipping 7 days after requesting the RMA-- not too bad.

    the POST summary screen identifies the CPU and the DDR2 correctly, the BIOS hardware monitor is sensing the cooler fan okay (RPM's indicated) and the CPU temp is not abnormal 25-30C on startup and begins increasing slowly...but hte rig still shuts down for no apparent reason. THis time it took...

    good question...its just a no-name I had lying around from some old builds---thought about buying an upgrade, but was trying to minimze $$ spent for this little upgrade-- all I bought was the mobo and DDR2 ($115 total), everything else was on my 'extra stuff' shelf. @ blkhogan-- good idea...

    didn't get that far yet...haven't let it boot to windows yet...I'm in trying to configure the BIOS and it just shuts down while I'm setting it up...still haven't been able to fully review all settings, let alone set them how I want them.

    having issues keeping the upgrade running...some of the backstory: perfectly fine rig for the wife...she's been using it about 3 years now for general internet and email, but it takes about 12 minutes to start & load everything (WinXP SP3, MS Office 2007) to get to email-- she wanted faster...

    System used to work fine. I just rearranged my office, and when I hooked up my rig (AMD 940X4, MSI DKA790GX mobo, dual HD 5770, Corsair 650W PSU, 4GB RAM running WinXP Pro SP3), the system gives me a warning that system did not shutdown correctly - do I want to start windows normally or safemode...

    I read another article online testing the 4770's in X-fire and OCing them using GPU-Z if I remember correctly---flippin' $220 graphics setup held it's own or beat GeForce 280!...that's when I started looking for the premium cooler design a little more...if the smaller cooler OCing can get that...

    was poking around on XFX europe website and found pics of this cooler on the HD4770 page with card that is currently for sale with the smaller cooler....small cooler card SKU is HD477AYDLC and the SKU for premium cooler is HD477AYDFC...evidently it has not been released as the XFX website does...
