Hi guys.

Just bought my Connect X1800XT 256mb Graphics card (Never used ATI before. Installing after format) and i need to know what to do next in relation:

Settings
Which program to use to overclock
What figure should i be able to get in 3D Mark 05
What Core and Memory should i be aiming for?
Is it ok to fit a Zalman V700 CU on this card
What Cat drivers should i use?

Any help would be great. Cheers

I'm no X1800 expert, but you should use latest Catalyst drivers for sure. If you get over 10K in 3DMark05, I guess it's good. A Zalman, personally I'd use a ATI Silencer. Ati Tray Tools is what I use but other people use ATI Tool, which I also use sometimes.

please dont type in caps. its annoying.. my friend has a sapphire x1800xt 256mb. i have no idea what he gets in 3dmark or overclocks but atitool and ati tray tools are the best programs to overclock. just make sure u hear the jet engine that is the cooler when u boot. the vf700cu is a good cooler but i reccomend the vf900. the two heatpipes realy help dissapate the heat compared to the silencer which is just meant to be quiet vs extreme overclocking.

cpu would need to be at least at 2.6 and he'd have to be clocked at the xtpe (700/800)settings to break 10k in 05, perhasp less though maybe even 650/775 would do it it's been a while since I had my xt clocked that low and newer cats give biiger boosts in 3dmarks.

I'm with a X800 510mhz GPU / 580mhz GDDR3 with a single core A64 3000+ and value ram, it does 6600 in 3Dm05. Basically that's how I based expectation for his gear, could of been wrong thoe. Seen sevral benches of X1800XT around the 10K mark too.

Goto ATI.com and on the driver page download the *driver only*. There is a link to it for dial up connections.

Google ATI Tray Tools by Ray Adams. This will give you way more flexability.

at TechPowerUp.com download ATITool, the latest beta version. From there you will be able to set voltages and clocks. The X1800 card doesn't need physical voltage modifications, it can all be done via windows programs.

Heres a tip for direct3d games: In ATI Tray tools setup a game profile for a direct3d game, set vsyc to always on, Flip queue size to 0, and under the d3d tab click the "force triple buffers." It has helped majorly with my computer since I use vsync for almost everything.

Good luck with your card.

oh yea one more thing... I'm using a VF1-Plus VGA cooler on my X1800GTO. It brought idle temps down from 50C on a Zalman Fatal1ty fan (set to performance mode). The new idle temperature is 38C. At 1.45v and 700 at the core it idles at 45C and max load temp never goes above 65. Just a suggestion... I didn't need to modify it on my x1800gto either. On an all in wonder x1800xl it doesnt fit so i was kind of scared about fitting for my card. Both our cards use, if not the same, similar plastic circuit boards so its really worth a try...
