Looking for a new 2x2gb set.

For a bit, I've been looking for a new set of ram.

Currently, I have (4x1gb) Corsair 800mhz DDR2 sticks. Though, two of the sticks are made at a later time than the others (I bought two sets separately). When I move on to a new system (which I will be soon), I seriously doubt the motherboard will be nice with using four of my sticks of ram (since they weren't all in the same batch). By luck, my current mobo doesn't have any problems, but I know most probably will.

So, what is a good set of 800 or 1066 (2x2gb) sticks? I am not in favor of any manufacturer, so all suggestions welcome.

mmmmmm Pi.....Gskill seem to be where its at lately with the Pi series. They come in both silver and black sreaders, but the black arent as high in MHz yet as the silvers are avaliable up to 1200MHz if you can find them. The 1100's are in the 130-140 price range!

I have the g-skill PI PC8500's. And love em' onl had em for about 6 weeks so far but no probs yet, they run fine at 1066mhz at 1.9v instead of the rated 2.1v...

The only thing to be wary of is the height of the coolers on them. If you are building a small system or using a very large aircooler then you may run into probs...

They're speed holes, they make the ram go faster. :laugh:

Seriously though they're help cool the ram by increasing the surface area of the heat spreader. :cool:

I know this may sound nuts coming from me, but here is my recommendation.

Wintec has been the most compatible brand I have ever used, with not a single problem to date. It's cheap, but not in a bad way. The only thing to keep in mind is that it doesn't like timings lower than specified. It's not super overclocking RAM, but it's very stable and plays nice in four stick layouts. Two of my most recent builds use 4x1GB Wintec layouts without any hiccup.

Going to grab two of those kits soon for a 4x2GB setup when I go 64bit.

What is the main difference between the Black PI's and the normal PI's? The black's seem to have a lower voltage with lower latency's (compared to the other ones), but is that mainly it? Not going to be doing much ocing, and if I do, I'd probably just set the FSB to one which can have an even divider.

Edit: Never tried Wintec's, but if they seem like a good set, may pick them up.

The blacks are the newer version of the silvers. They have lower timings and voltage. On g.skill's website there's 900mhz and 1000mhz versions listed, so I bet it's safe to say we'll see them show up pretty soon.
