I remember in early 2001, when I had a 1 ghz Athlon and a Geforce2 200mx, my 3Dmark2001 score was around 1600. The Geforce2 200mx at the time was the low end . When I went to the high end in late 2001 with the Radeon 8500, my 3Dmark2001 score got around 7500.

Today with 3Dmark2006, I get roughly 2200 with my x800gto2 that is overclocked and unlocked. At stock speed, it would probably get around 1600 points.

Should I consider the card as the current real low end? And would you consider an ATI X1300 and a Geforce 7300gs as ULTRA LOW END / ENTRY ?

2006 give a false reading with your card.. it only lets u run half the tests..

add a 1000 to your score to make up for the missing tests.. then another 1000 for the dual core cpu u "dont" have.. this gives u a real world gaming type score of over 4000..

looking at your card like that give a more realistic impression.. your system isnt as bad as 2006 makes it out to be..

still its job is to sell more hardware.. it has u thinking.. he he

Harrr!!

It isn't so much the hardware as the games we play. I have given up on 3D06 as it is a piece of crap. HL2-CS:S with the high res pack installed the lowest I can make the frame rate go is 38 with 16X-6X all high quality on 5.1 surround @ 1280X1024.

Excellent explanation! I wish all people would understand how lopsided and ridiculous 3D Mark 06 is! No wonder they are burying 3D Mark 05, to even when it comes to other hardware. Everyone should read this post so they can understand the crap being spoonfed to them. :toast:

Shit, that was several years into my gaming days. I remember Doom on a $4000 Pentium 100MHZ with 16MB's of ram and a 13inch monitor. Those were the days.

Pretty good, but I would put the X1800GTO into the High end. I would put the X800XT, X850 Pro, X1600 PRO, and the 7600GT into the midrange cards.

oh, and i remember playing Duke Nukem 3D on my dad's comp at work, and loving the game on his ENORMOUS 15" monitor. i preferred to play it there with NO SOUND than at home on our smaller monitor (not sure, but 12" seems to ring a bell) w/ sound

12" screen???!!! I've got the following:

- KDS 17" screen
- Apple 20" screen
- NEC Multisync 6FG 21" screen
- HP A4576A 21" screen
- IBM P201 20" screen
- some 14" screen somewhere

The most expensive of them all was the NEC MUltisync 6FG, at 50$, the rest were either 30$ (A4576A) or free (14", 17", P201, Apple).

Screw benchmarks of all forms, ther nice for numbers but offer no real indecation of how your system performs. By todays standards my 6800GT is the high end of "midrange" at best according to 3dmark. But lets put it this way, I can still play FEAR with max details and AA + AF @ 1280*1024, same with games like quake 4. Does this sound like a midrange card at best? Hell no.

5200 is low end. Until about a year ago I was playing all sorts of games on it. It even played BF2 fine. Low end means your using low settings. Since my 5200 ran all games fine with low settings, I would call it the low end.

if you look around theres still plenty of cheap, computer supermarket type machines, they usualy have intel GMA900/950, X300SE, 5200 or 6200TC cards, its hard to spot a low end machine with x1300 and 7300 cards

So, basically, My score of a little over 1000 on 3DMark 06 is bullshit, and it makes my PC look bad, even though its not? And 2nd, will a new motherboard help my performance of my processor or ram?

On Oblivion, I Put My Shadow Filtering On High, All Distances On High, 1024x768, No Self Shadows, No Shadows On Grass And No Canope Shadows. I Use Bloom Lighting Because I Only Have SM2.0, But That's Not Too Important. By The Way, If I Bought Another GB Of Ram For My Comp, Will I Be Less Laggy In Outdoor Areas With Lots Of Grass And Trees And Stuff, Or Is That More Video Ram?

I got a X800GTO2 overclocked and 16 shader pipelines witrh 2GB of relatively fast ram and the outdoor scenes in 1024x768 with ALL shadow effects and ANISO 16x and performance settings on AAA 6x are incredibly laggy. More specially in the very grassy areas up north in the mountains for example. There the framerates are no more than 10 FPS , and can literally drop at around 1 FPS in some moments.... It could be a problem with the amount of video ram + the incredibly huge amount of textures mixed with AAA demands. My processor should be sufficient at 2.8Ghz AMD64 Venice.

I'd say for Oblivion, my card is definately not high performance. I do believe that in the comming years, most PC games will take example from Oblivion and abuse of incredibly huge amounts of textures and visual effects.

Liar. I have a x1800xtpe and had to lower the resolution to 1152x864 with 4xaa/8xaf max with no softshadows.

Dont even BS like that. 30 fps average is not playable, because minimum gets down to teens. Even though my average is 60 it will still go down to under 30 often.
