Will 2x 80GB Serial ATA 300 3GB/s in RAID 0 work on a motherboard that only supports Serial ATA 150 1.5GB/s? Or will a 160GB Serial ATA 3GB/s work on that same motherboard too?
Well, I had troubles on my older Abit IC7-Max 3 mobo (running P4 3.2ghz + GeForce 6800 GT OC as well) when I put in the NEW WD "Raptor X" series disks I use in my 2nd system now (ASUS A8N-SLI Premium mobo).
From what I have read/understand, the older Raptors that worked well in the Abit mobo used "SATA Bridges" (iirc, that is the term) to communicate with disk controllers on various mobos, but the newer ones are no longer using that.
It caused problems on a 2-3 years older mobo trying to use them.
The problems? Intermittent bootups, like mad... seeing the disks, & then not. Made me hate to reboot... & installation? Touch & go, etc. apk

P.S.=> I guess, you ought to check compatibility lists - WD does list those for their new "Raptor X" series drives, so you know!
It was "my bad" for not checking them first!
I actually purchased the "Raptor X's" because it was all I really wanted for my older rig, but in the end, it made up update/upgrade to an ENTIRELY NEW SYSTEM!
(& pretty penny spent or not, I am VERY happy I did in fact - my new rig absolutely DUSTS my older one, & in it's day (older rig) was considered "prime parts" in its constituent componentry makeup)...
So, for myself @ least, it all worked out well in the end imo! Sometimes? Problems aren't really that @ all, but doorways to better things (I try to be an optimist)... apk
