Hi, im looking for a X58 Motherboard, but i cant decide which one, the machine is going to be a gaming rig mainly but also an everyday use one. The reason for the confusion, is i was wanting to get a motherboard with SAS but also looking at 2 4870X2 and a third physics card either nvidia PhysX or Havoc when its ready.

So any idea what multiplier the physics card should run at and what X58 motherboard will be best for me.

Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Havoc is a waste, physX is a waste with a system like that...

As for the drives, why SAS? You are asking to spend an absolute fortune for almost no reason..
Get a few Veloci Raptors and stripe them, or get 4 and raid 5 them, you will be cookin!

If you want good SAS plan on spending about $500 on a controller or more, otherwise you may as well stick with SATA.

I also highly doubt you will ever see a SAS controller on a desktop board.

Some of the X58 boards already have SAS on them.

The Asus P6T motherboard has 2 SAS ports on it, would anyone know if this would be any good for 3 video cards, i definately want 2 running at 16x/16x excluding that what do people think about the MSI Eclipse board??

Go with ASUS if you can. They usually have the most features and best clockers:)

Out of all the boards I've seen, I still like the Gigabyte Extreme the best, even tho it has no SAS features. It's layout is spot-on.

Wow, that's just looney... But thanks for pointing that out... Never would have expected that.

Both the Foxconn Renaissance and Rlood Rage boards are also coming out with SAS ports.
