I have a 2900xt 512mb and 8800gts(g80) 320mb and I am wondering which one is the more superior card? which one do you recomend I keep? Also would their be anyway that I can run the 29xt and 88gts on a 790gx board and enable physx with the 8800gts?

Thanks for any replies

I am pretty sure the 2900XT is better but I would wait for more responses. And dont let PhysX make your decision. Its never going to fully take off.

I've had both cards, and overclocked the 2900xt is the better card, though it will consume more power.

If you use both thats going to be a heck of a power hungry PC. I say sell them both, go for an HD4850 and pocket the cash left over.

he might be able to get a 4870 or GTX260 if he sold it "right" if you know what I mean

If the X-Power 585Watt is your new PSU it will eat a live if the 2900XT is overclocked. Your system is going be drawing from around 190w - 380w my older 600w could not handle it due to heat inside the PSU..

How much are you paying for the 2900XT ?.. If it's around the $100 mark you be better of picking up a 8800GT and if you can get around $150 get a 4850 as that outperforms the 2900XT and uses 100w+ less..

Well ima keep one, which one should I sell? in your guys opinion. From what I gathered the 29xt is the better card than the 8800gts. I think I will keep the 2900xt, since I read it performs about the same as a 3870, which is great if i'm correct.

it's a good card. Mine is sticking around the house and is going into my wife's computer when I get a new card.

2900 is the better card. When they were first released, the 8800 was winning, but then ATI came back with better drivers and took the top spot. It is noisier, hotter, and more power hungry.

8800GTS hands down.
2900XT =noisy+the MOST power hungry GPU ever+hot lyk hell.
29XT n 88gts performs equal.
3870 stock speeds about 1.5X faster thn 29XT.
Keep the 8800GTS dude..
But if ure planning crossfire, keep the 2900XT,add another 2900XT (kind of waste of money) and 1KW PSU is a must.
But if I were u,sell both of it,and go 4870 or 260.

1) that is a testament to corsair PSU's

2) it is now time for new GPU's since the 3870 was faster than the 2900XT.

it is sad if you think about it, what happened to "you will be fine for 6 months or more" now its like wow your cards are the cards of days ago and they are only like 4 months and look at all of the cards that are better now. over the last 3-5 months there has been how many series of cards that got released are stronger than the ones before them. 2900's were god cards now they seem like ati's 9200 series

They trade blows, but the 2900 XT is much more noisy and power hungry.

Amen man, I remember paying $279.99 for mine. Of course, I still remember paying $279.99 for my Geforce FX 5900

The GTS 320 is a good bit slower than the 2900. The 640MB GTS is on par with the XT.

The truth is, the 2900 XT, 8800 GTS, and 3870 are similar in performance, the overall performance will vary from review to review and depending on the revision of the card, benchmark, the specification of the tested system, and any differences wouldn't be hugely noticeable. I actually think you'd be better off buying a newer/cooler/faster card such as the ATI 4850/4830 or Nvidia 9800 GTx+.

Edit:

allen337, although I agree with you.

I feel that the ATI 4830 is just as cheap, runs cooler, and is faster. I'd only consider the 2900 XT if I could find it massively cheaper than its faster alternatives

I still like the 2900xt. Antec 850 handels them nicely, I run the fans @50% up to 60c the up it to 60% but it very seldom kicks in. Dont know how the 8800gts does but the 2900s do good in 3d06 heres mine~~~ http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5943251 .
