Ive been reviewing the build and reading and looking at prices for this and plan to get it all by the end of 08.

The problem i face at the moment is the case, yes its really expensive but i liked it for its quiet features and good airflow, sooo what case do i get? i think my current (TT armor jr) isnt that good and is quite loud. So yeah im looking for a mid tower but good! what one??

Anyway gimmy feedback on the build if you could!!! :)

Hmm. As far as I’m concerned I think u should switch to a Asus P6T Deluxe. And I don’t think Zalman produces quality psus so go with a Silverstone DA850 or a Corsair 1000HX (overkill?)

From experience, the Zalman PSU's are actually pretty good.
Problem is, the Corsair is slightly better and often cheaper.

As for the case: it's a Lian-Li, so it's good. I just couldn't handle the drives coming out the side of the case.

man that case is sexy...

I had a zalman psu and it was great until it smoked after 1yr. Not saying they are bad or anything, plenty of folk swear by em. I would go for corsair psu. They just won PSU supplier of the year and you know it will last.

The HX-520 will be heaps for what you want to do.

Yum! Foxconn Blood Rage! I want that motherboard badly. >.< So kudos to you on that.

As for the PSU, I can't recommend Corsair enough so I'm going to be another vote for a Corsair unit. It's a tosh up between the HX620W or the HX1000W. Personally I'll be going with the HX620W as the HX1000 isn't anywhere near as good as I was expecting it to be.

The build looks great, and I can't wait to see how it performs so I'll be subscribing to your thread as soon as you get started.

Good luck!

:D

UPDATE: I forgot to mention, we're looking at a December release for the Blood Rage!

But the HX620 isnt modular...? thats why i liked the enermax revolution as its good make modular and plenty of power.

I heard from a foxconn worker that the bloodrage was coming out a couple of weeks after the i7 release as someone asked this "the release date, are we talking about months or weeks after the launch of the i7" and the foxconn dude said weeks.

And as for the case...hmm im still not sure, the CM HAF looks nice, but dno if its quiet and the CM black edition that was recently announced sounds nice.

But you need to get one ;) The release article says only like 500 per country, which means its going to be expensive as balls and very hard to find.

I have the HX620. It's fantastic, and modular. Thats why I bought it. My dad has one and he is putting one in the machine he is building for my mom. I highly recommend it.

the CM HAF looks real nice, cheap and most of the reviews say its quiet, except TPU's :S. Obviously id get black tape and sort that blue LED overpowering the red led problem. Replace the side 230mm with a red 230mm (only problem is its only available from CM usa website) and paint the interior black.

Oh the other problem, the size at first the width and height were fine for me (im a mid tower person) but the depth .... hmm its flipping deep. 575mm and all the reviews show how much motherboard space there is, obviously for a bigger motherboard but aahh its bad :( thats the only real doubt for this case.

any sugestions?

ive decided on the HAf but can any one tell me what type of paint you use to paint the interior of cases? ive read that the case is made out of steel if that makes a difference.

i actually have a couple of questions then need answering ASAP

1. Collermaster V8 or Thermalright 120?
2. if Thermalright, will it be okay without a fan?
3. zalman 850hp or hx620 (dno when enermax is being released :( )

1.) Thermalright 120 (Copper?)
2.) As long as you have excellent air flow that goes directly over the fins, then yes. Personally I wouldn't use it without a fan though.
3.) You already know my opinion on this, but for shits and giggles I'll say it again - Corsair HX620W.

As for the paint, you could always email Coolermaster and ask what they use. When I come to spray mine I'll most likely use car spray paint.

Well, if i got the HAF and the blood rage, being all black n red id go for the thermalright 120 black, thats why i liked the V8 black n red but im also after a silent computer so the thermalright without a fan would be a bonus.

and yeh so 3 230mm fans and a 140mm fan i mean yeah that high air flow, probably enough for the thermalright but again i do run risks running it passive.

but thanks for the reply!!! i would thank you more but can only thank once :p

If your going for a I7 build CM then I would strongly suggest a good quality 120mm fan on the thermalright. The I7's have a 125w tdp Ibelieve. Have a look at the noctua or scythe fans. Both of which are really good quality.

As for painting inside the case, it should be fairly easy, just use some enamel pressure packs (get decent quality auto paint). The paint job inside the case doesn't have to be perfect as you won't really see that much of it, nor will it get scratched etc..

Just take case apart, slighty rub back interior, mask shit you don't want painted, prime, then paint. 2 coats of enamel will be heaps. If you want a really good look then chuck a clear coat on top. Make sure you have the mb standoff's screwed in when you paint case (with masking tape on them).

And off you go... :)

BTW.. HX620 is modular and a really nice, heavy psu. :) you won't be disappointed.

have been checking it out n stuff. Have thought, the haf is a big case will the wires be long enough and being a 620w wont the load be high therefore creating alot of noise?

Why should he switch to the Asus P6T? There's nothing wrong with the blood rage unless you have personal experience you'd like to shed on this situation.

The HX620 is actually one of the quietest PSU's around. It's often recommended for quiet computers.

yeah but according to reviews the noise increases pretty rapidly according to power consumption which will be at least half way in my system will it not?

I'll be getting a HX620 after Christmas and passing my HX520 on to my girlfriend.

Well, considering I'm running an overclocked E6550 and a 4850 Toxic off one, I've never heard it. And my case fans are Noctuas which are as quiet as they come. The noisiest part is now the Zalman cooler on my Gfx card, which is now controlled through a fan controller.

I've had Antec, Zalman, and Coolermaster PSU's, and the Corsair simply outclasses them all. The Coolermaster got swapped out after a month as it's so freaking noisy.

Something else to consider, the only time you pc will be drawing alot is under gaming, or benching. And there's plenty other noise when gaming.
