Trouble deleting a folder

I downloaded Windows 7 earlier with the following plan:

Keep Vista on my current C drive
Try 7 on my E drive which had loads of free space

It didn't quite work out + to cut a long story short I've now got a messed up installation on my E drive and a perfect one (of windows 7 ) on my C drive.

I now can't delete the broken remains of the failed installation on my E drive, because I get this message:

I also get the same message when trying to delete E:\program files and E:\boot.

Is there any software or a utility within windows I can use to get rid of these folders?

It's a NTFS ACL permissions problem. PLUS are you sure you have a perfect working Win7 on C:? It might be a MIX of C: and E:. The only way to be sure is to DISCONNECT E: and see if you can still boot C: without error. I would hate you to "fix" E: and only afterwards discover that it contained essential files for your C: boot. This is what can happen if you fxxk up your OS install.

The quickest solution to fix E:? Backup the files you want to keep from E: (copy to another partition) then reformat E:. TRying to fix permissions could take you all day.

lol that's what I'm afraid of; fXXking it up and losing 500GB of stuff that I need. Plus the fact I've not got any room to back up all the stuff I need, the E drive has only got 100GB free now, my C drive is only a 36GB raptor and my other one has 3GB spare.

Also, I've tried some shitty freeware programs which have made the problem worse and somehow made the E:\windows folder about 5 times it's original size:

STOP.

Get yourself a NAS, USB drive, or new HDD and install it. Backup before you screw yourself further.

Then implement method I suggested earlier.

DONT be brave and risk losing it all. You will kick yourself so bad, not if, but when it goes awry.

I can't really afford a NAS, or new HDD, plus I don't really need one ATM. I've found the 150GB file in the windows folder that the freeware thingy created and deleted it. Now the messed up installation is sucking up 7GB instead of 160GB lol. There must be a piece of software that can delete this, I've just tried file shredder without luck.

Thanks for the suggestion but it says "delete folder failed for E:\....." for each folder I try.



Will I be forever stuck with these unnecessary folders?

Download norton commander for windows and try it. I`m using it for deleting those autorun.inf virus files that stuck to the USB drives or second non system partition. If no file is used from windows folder NC should erase it easy. And there is Hiren`s boot disk that you can download it is bootable and has volkov commander on it similar to NC and it runs in DOS and it will delete windows folder 100%. Or you can make USB stick bootable and use deltree command.

Unlocker doesn't work on windows 7 and I get the same error message when using norton commander. I'm gonna go to sleep now and try fix this again tomorrow.

Maybe if you have a spare drive, you can install a temporary winXP or win2000 and delete the offending folder from there?

Well... I couldn't work out how to use the damn thing lol, I tried several of the file utilities on there and could even locate the disk... I also tried making a boot usb drive, but my mobo doesn't have options to boot from USB for some reason.

Also tried safe mode with MS-DOS, deltree command didn't work, tried doing "ERASE E:\windows" and still came up access denied.

I'm stumped...

maybe you'll be able to delete them with a linux live cd, such as knoppix?
