Okay,
Title prob doesnt explain very well, but I'm getting real bored of Vista and Windows 7 is driving me nuts with bugs atm. Express Gate is even worse, so dont get me started on that!
Now I want Vista installed, but just for gaming, I'm thinking I might do a really bare vlite install, to get the most from it.
I had originally thought maybe I will install a full version of Vista alongside it (is that legal with same key?), for all my uni/cad work, internet browsing and email. But I want something that boots A LOT faster than Windows, so I'm thinking, maybe for the first time ever, I will delve into Linux... .
If I do go linux route I have a few requirements:
- Needs to boot faster than Win
- Needs to support Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007
- Needs to support AutoCAD & Adobe Photoshop
- Needs to support MSN/Windows Live Messenger
- Nero if poss, unless there is something better which runs well on Linux
- Would like it to look nice, without being slow, and needs to handle pics .etc
- Only problem I forsee is drivers, now Canon have been ever so kind as to provide drivers for my all-in-one, but am I gonna struggle on other things? (I also have a HP 1220c)
- Can I still use Kaspersky Internet Security 2009?
- How well does it handle pics? Can I still plug in my camera and phone etc?
Basically I'm a noob when it comes to Linux, but I have wanted to try if for a while.
Options I have come up with for Dual Boots are:
- Vista / Win 7 (have now not working very well )
- Vista / vLite
- Vista / Linux
Obviously past the word Linux, I have only heard of a few OS's so you'll all have to help me on that one. Maybe you have some other/better ideas?
Love to hear everyone's thoughts.
