New rig need advice

Hi!

I finally found a buyer for my current rig and decided to buy a I7 rig instead.. i want to buy a Rampage II Extreme first then Diablo 2000MHz ram then an i7 920 2,66GHz..
Any advice on that build?

Heard the Rampage is nice. Before I would buy any high speed RAM I would check out this http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/triple-channel-ddr3-i7,2128.html, so you can pick the right stuff.

I'm assuming your keeping the PSU and case? PSU will be more than enough for that build.

if money wasnt an issue, i would get a new gfx card...maybe a gtx260 or a 1gb 4870

That Rampage II is far too pricey I think. That's why I'm getting Gigabytes Extreme board instead (the best one). The Bloodrage looks to be highly over priced too.

^^ Yeah, get the OC Palm Edition. If I had a choice out of boards to get for my i7 rig in September/October time, I'd get either the P6T OC Palm Edition or Gigabytes Extreme.

How come that the deluxe version is 100 buck more expensive than the regulare P6T.. does the deluxe clock better?

You're better off going with lots of entry level DDR3 if you're already sold on a core i7 and this motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128375 unless you absolutely require certain features that it doesn't have. That alone will save you enough money to more than pay for a high end GPU. However, the system you build should be dependent on what you intend to do with it. If you're looking to build an "enthusiast" system on a limited budget thats somewhat of an oxymoron. You'd be better off going with a high-end Core2 system and binging on the graphics.

From what you've started with, benchmarks show very limited real world benefit (at this point in time) for spending $200-$300 more on "high speed" memory and you'll see limited benefits from spending an additional $50-$100 on a motherboard in this situation. If you want your system on a whole to be much faster, then a better balancing of parts will get you much more bang for the buck.

3. Are there any special features that you require in this system that may be abnormal?

I intend to game mostly at 1920x1080 maxed out (most likely to buy a 295) as well as oc the hell out of this rig and compete in differnt threads aka benchmarking.. i dont have a budged yet cause i buy one piece at a time.. cause i am unemployed that the only way i can make the transition to 1366..

It's almost pointless to buy each item one at a time in the computer world. Because technology updates and prices fall so quickly, you'll essentially be paying more for each component even though you won't be using them. This is the case even when using older components (where able) as substitutes for the time being as they will bottleneck your system's overall performance anyhow. You're best off saving until you have enough to purchase your system on a whole or do a significant upgrade or else purchase on credit (not recommended, especially when you're unemployed, especially in this market). Consider this, if you purchase certain components now, but don't use them (or use them with older hardware) versus waiting say...2 months (insert time frame here) the difference in price/capabilities of the hardware will change significantly in that time period (often hundreds of dollars) and you won't have paid for almost no gain. Instead you'll get a new system all at once.

Edit: also consider That there isn't any requirement to "transition" to socket 1366. Especially considering that the technology is still maturing.

i wont go for the rampage 2 extreme unless u really want it, if u want to overclock like hell, then go for a p6t deluxe, a x58-ud5 or the bloodrage

Then when you have the alloted budget that you plan to spend all saved up, you'll be able to afford much better hardware then you would have before. And, I know this can be the most difficult part, but try to be patient. It may be a long process to accrue the necessary funds, so be wait, and as the time approaches to purchase, then begin to do your research as the market will likely have fluctuated from now.

Thats true even tho its very tempting to buy whatever parts you can now it would be better to just save up and buy the whole system you might even end up finding new very good deals.
