Phenom II is a strong offering to compete with 45nm intel LGA775 processors. Its just to little to late because of i7 in the performance department and the sad situation of DDR3 errata for Phenom II.(until its fixed so they can use slots 3 and 4)
But the Phenom II pricing is competitive.
I am considering building a PII computer if I can scoup up a used one for cheap perhaps.
Of course they won't but they shouldn't have to pick and choose outdated benchmarks to look competitive. They should do their best on the best scale of performance. They don't have to be on top. They just shouldn't pretend to have the best performance. They should show off their attractive pricing on their Processors and Motherboards because thats their strong suit. Intel doesn't want to take that away from them. Thats what keeps AMD in the market IMO.
I want to see performance per watt and per dollar in comparisons. The motherboard market speaks for itself.
Intel boards have more attractive features but a higher price on average so its honestly whatever you prefer really. I am just glad Phenom 2 was better designed than the original Phenom because Phenom felt like a step backwards in quality. But Phenom II redeemed them in my eyes as a major competition again.

I doubt they will get that far on vantage.
