Hey guys, I was just wondering whether 2x2 GB Dual Channel memory will still work in dual channel even though XP 32bit apparently only reads 3.5GB or something like that:confused:

dual channel will work if in the correct dimms, but you will not be able to use the full 4GB under a 32 bit OS... it caps the ram at 3 or 3.5... to use more than that you have to use a 64 bit OS.
hope that helps.

Thanks, how much RAM will a 64bit OS pick up?

18,446,744,073,709,551,616 bytes, 18.4 exabytes, or 16 exbibytes.

As far as I know x86-64 is actually only designed for 48-bit memory addressing which is 281,474,976,710,656 bytes, 281.5 terabytes, or 256 terbibytes.

The operating system itself dictates how much of that memory it is designed to access. For instance, most are 8 to 128 gigbibytes but some, like Windows Server Datacenter and most distros of Linux support up to 2 terbibytes.

Memory limits for OS is listed here:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspx

But the specs on that motherboard (ECS G31T-M7) in your sys specs are:
Dual-channel DDR2 memory architecture
2 x 240-pin DDR2 DIMM socket support up to 4 GB
Support DDR2 667/800 MHz Memory

You could probably put two 4 GiB sticks in. Usually the "up to #" is just marketing (take the highest density sticks on the market times the number of DIMMs and run it once to make sure it works alright).
