My friend have a very strange problem with is computer. I am his tech since he don't know anything about the hardware. His core 2 duo 4300 run randomly like a pentium 75.
This is his computer :
Core 2 duo 4300 (1.8ghz) running at 2,66ghz with multi set to 8 and FSB set to 333, stock voltage for 24/7 overclock with stock heatsink
P5K motherboard with lastest BIOS (rev 1201)
2 x 1 GB OCZ reaper running 4-4-4-12 2T 2.0V
The computer worked well at those setting for 1 years and a half, until we had to swap the motherboard because of a broken audio port. I swapped another P5K and sent the broken one for exchange last week. Since I swapped the motherboard, the computer randomly slowdown so much that just do a right-click or open a folder can take as much as 30 sec. Installing a simple accounting software took 3 hours !!! Opening the task manager take more than a minute! And after a couple of hours, speed come back. Everything is fine for another couple of hours... It's really random. When the bug was there, I tried to close all applications, services, anti-spyware, ect but windows was still slow. More surprisingly, task manager indicate no more then 1-2% CPU usage. What's wrong ? Can the clock generator of the motherboard be defective ? It's only a supposition...
Edit : Also, speed come back even if we don't reboot, and the computer never crash
