I currently have a 256mb GDDR3 x1650 PRO, and am looking at some sort of budget upgrade. As far as ATi cards go, it seems I can pick up a 512mb DDR2 HD2600 PRO for a cracking price of less than 15GBP, but I was wondering if it would be much of an upgrade at all. Before anyone jumps in and starts shouting "HD4870!" etc, I request you re-read the first line of this post, and quite frankly I am sick of the x1650's poor performance.

Thanks all.

You may be able to run at a higher resolution when playing games with the 2600. Even at low settings it's a pretty good benefit.

the 2600 is going to be a very large, noticeable increase.

However the 2600 is still rather slow by todays standards when it comes to modern (last 1-2 years) games

If i was you i'd buy this card and then start saving for another one, take a look at cards like the 9600GT and 4370.

That's exactly my plan, use this upgrade for now until I can start upgrading properly again. Got a new processor on the way (5600+) and unfortunately have a very strict real life budget :ohwell:. Thank you for the info.
