Ok so after learning they are going to discontinue the 4830 I'm ditching it, but I'm going to get the 1GB Sapphire 4870 Vapor-X :D

My online retailer just listed it and the 2GB version, it's expensive but I have €85 at the moment with more on the way, I didn't realize I had that much so just save a few more weeks and it should be mine :D

The 1GB Vapor-X is €217, 2GB seems to have disappeared from the site but it was like €245 (cheaper than the 1GB Toxic)

Good choice (on the 4870) -- but I think you should save some money and go 512MB unless you plan to go higher resolution than 1920x1200. You can put the money you save toward your next graphics card or something.

Why not buy a regular Sapphire HD4870 1Gb for €179?

No, the 1GB 4870 is definitely better than the 512MB w/AA @ 1920x1200. I got rid of my 512MB just for that reason. It's overall smoother than the 512MB at this res.

Eh, I have no problems with 512MB on my HD4850, but either way the 4870 1GB and 512MB are both good choices. But I think we can agree 2GB is overkill even for something like a GTX285.

Unless you're playing GTA4. lol.

And I didn't have problems, per se, it's just that the 1GB is noticeably smoother.

The cheapest 4870 on the site I'm buying from is the 1GB Sapphire for €203. I want a blue PCB and they only have the Sapphire 1GB 4870, 1GB 4870 Vapor-X and the 1GB 4870 Toxic which is like €255, so I'm going for the Vapor-X model. Also, I like to use AA because while playing at 1440x900 with it off, I notice it. Don't know about 1920x1200, but I want AA and AF.

DriverHeaven called it the most impressive 4870 to date, and I've been hearing good things about the quiet cooler. And they don't do a 512MB 4870, only a 512MB 4850.

Settling the bitchfight between somestranger26 and matt445 :p And you don't need to know all the cards, just the OC results, which are labelled.

Ah, I see lol. Anyway, yeah I'm settled on the Vapor-X card. Should be a nice purchase for me and will be nice to finally get some high end hardware into my rig, I should have about €190 in 2 weeks, so I shouldn't have to wait too long to get the rest, assuming nothing comes up, which always seems to happen.

What a great game you chose to compare them (is that what you're trying to do?) -- one where NVIDIA typically has an edge... I really have no idea what point you're trying to make here.

His post showed that the OCed 4850 edges out the OCed 9800GTX+.

512MB should do the job, but of course a 1GB would do the job even better.

Yeah I play at 1920x1200 with at least 4x AA and just went from 4850 512MB Crossfire to the Sapphire 4870 1GB and I am noticing a nice difference in over all smoothness of gameplay, load times etc in many games especially Fallout 3 as I run hi-res texture packs.

hmm, I played call of duty 4 highest settings no AA or AF at 1920x1200 and never dipped below 20FPS on a 256 mb 7900gs
