I recently bought a DFI 790FX DARK mobo off of newegg and i have not been able to get it running games stable yet. I can not get this rig to play games. it will allow play for maybe 30 minutes tops before freezing. it will even freeze on avi and youtube playback.:banghead:

I want to overclock my AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Kuma 2.7GHz and my CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 overclocked, which is what i heard this borad was perfect for... but i have no idea where to start on getting this board stable, letalone overclocked.

Any and all help would be appreciated. anything from the bios settings to a driver update will be worth a try.

your gonna have to reset the bios settings first, and then probably update the bios to the latest stable release, make sure the heatsink and thermal grease are in contact with the processor properly. Run Memtest on the ram to test it for any abnormalities. Also make sure your installing the system on a fresh OS.

I have been looking all around the internet and most of the sites pointed toward power failure, so i upgraded from a 550watt ultra to a 680watt BFG MX series, the first two of which failed to power the MOBO completely, and the new one still freezes, even more frequently than the lower wattage power supply.

my HD3870 is running on catalyst 9.3, my directx has been updated, memtest can find no errors, the bios has been reset many times. [god knows if i am supposed to set the things in bios manually because they dont seem to set themselves halfway right automatically...]

I have decent parts... Why cant I play games?

Did you load Failsafe defaults from within the bios?

One thing that comes to my mind is may be the voltage for the ram is not set properly. Most of the boards does that. You have to manually set the voltage to the volt recommendations Corsair says for that Ram. Don't change anything else and see if the machine is stable.

Also download some CPU/GPU temp monitoring and logging tool and start logging it to see if any reaches beyong threshold value.

Also check DFI's website for bios updates, there maybe a fix for the issues that you are having.

hey curly, nice to see you got the dfi board! +1!!

I had similar issues with the original bios and after changing it i got my setup running nicley. Look at my system specs.

I personally find that once you get the HT and NB above 2ghz the boost is a really nice touch!

Good luck with your OC'ing. :rockout:
