Track Mania is a popular free game to play at lans. There are others, I just can't think of them...

well all of them should have starcraft, but if not hsould download a worker version of it and play that. starcraft was lots of fun back when me, my friend, my bro, and his friend would just lan it 2v2 or us vs 4 AI's.

If You find one bloke with a hard Copy of Crysis Wars, you can lan that for all.

Q: Can I really play LAN for free?
A: Yes, you are allowed to install the game on as many machines as you want. As soon as you have enabled the online activation, you are able to play on LAN for as long as you wish.

Electronic Arts and Crytek have announced they'll be offering fans a free sample of their recently released Crysis multiplayer suite, Crysis Wars, next weekend, on October 10-12. Moreover, players can also play Crysis Wars for free over a LAN for the whole week prior to the online weekend deal, starting this Monday, October 6.

If a Steam account is willing to be publicly used, there are a lot of great LAN games. My LAN's typically start on CS Source, and end with Day of Defeat Source, with a good portion of other games in between.
