Well, my Q9550 arrived this morning, had a little scare with XP though. CPU-Z was reporting it was a C1 Q9550 however it states only 2 cores, 2 threads, CoreTemp was doing the same however it was reporting it as a E8300...

"Oh noes!" I thought, however, I had previously had my advanced boot options set to only two CPUs.

It's all good!

Time for some stock benching I think.

... however, I haven't tweaked enough yet to get it completely stable at 3.8GHz and it froze. However, I can run 3.75GHz stock volts with 7-7-7-20 and my RAM at 1410MHz.

Don't fret, I'm not at 3.8GHz anymore - dropped it down to 3.75GHz like I said. After an hour or two of playing Far Cry 2 my temps are only just over 60°C - this is with the stock copper Intel heatsink. Looking forward to getting my Noctua NH-U12P should help a wee bit.

I'll be able to back up my claims later with a screeny, but idle at the moment is too warm for my liking. Between 39°C and 42°C but tbf, after an hour of Far Cry 2 (completely maxed out with 2x AA) load is still just below 60°C so I'm not too worried.

Hopefully my NH-U12P will be here tomorrow.

To you all who got at or past 4 GHz: what was your VID, and what VCore did you need to run at that stable? I just got my hands on a Q9550 E0 from my Q9300 (M1 I think).

Also, is anyone running the 0803 Rampage Formula BIOS? I had an older Rampage Formula BIOS on my P5E that eliminated Vdroop but I had to upgrade it as the new CPU wasn't supported. If I have time today I'm going to enable LLC and see if that eliminates the Vdroop, otherwise I'm testing an older BIOS.

Update: I enabled LLC and the problem seems to be solved. Running a steady 1.328 VCore right now @ 3.7 GHz. No more Vdroop! I feel like I don't need that much juice, but I'm going to see if I can push to 4 GHz with it.

I got to 3.8 GHz yesterday with 1.352 VCore. I know it's a lot but I'm going to shoot higher using the same VCore. Hopefully I'll get lucky.

Prime has been running all night so everything looks okay. Previously I would lock up before even getting into Vista or shortly after. Temps are 53-44-57-50.

Try and see if yours can do 8.5X500 :D And if it does let me see some WPrime runs at that speed too. So far the highest I have gotten on this chip is 518Mhz on the FSB.. I wanna see how stable yours is past 500Mhz.

Well, I couldn't hold out and I've treated myself to a Q9550 (C1) stepping. I found a freaking great price for one on eBay - albeit, it does have to come from the Czech Republic (which I'm a little worried about) - however, the geezers feedback was 100% so I shouldn't have too much to worry about.

Anyroad, my point is, if you've owned a Q9550 or even any C1 rev based Yorkfield CPU I'd be happy to hear your experiences.

if you get lucky and get one of the good C1's, they can be pretty much as good as the average E0's. Nice buy.... good luck!

Probably yours, your voltages are beautiful.

I'm going to mess with everything tonight as my lady has gone home and I can finally test this new sucker out.
