I can't quote posts on my phone but. Sonda judging by the op's temperatures prior to switching the cooler it may seem that my statement is very much true nearly 100 degrees with stock cooler is absurdly high. It may not be harmful to the card itself but I sure wouldn't want that in my case heating up my other components.

100 degrees celsius is hot. I don't see it happening on this GPU before losing stability.

With 2 HD4770s (both 835/850) in Xfire running FurMark BenchMark with following specs my hottest GPU is way cooler than 100 degrees.

I went from about 36C idle (100% fan and 46C Idle 65% fan) and 88-94C load

Just the OP's temperatures were almost 100° that's where my comment came from.

I don't know why they aren't putting decent heatsinks on these cards in the first place, it kind of defeats the price to performance if I have to slap a $50 cooler on it...

That's why I generally don't bother with aftermarket coolers. If I have to spend $50 on a cooler, I may as well just put that $50 towards a faster card with a similarly-crappy cooler in the first place.

That doesn't work if you are buying top-of-the-line stuff and there is no faster card, of course.

This card is by no means hot. Even with the cruddy looking stock heat sink and fan. It's a cool running card. Stable. Fast.

Sure it would be nice for ATI to have released the nice cooling unit that was pictured in most of the reviews but they didn't. We still have a great video card that runs cool and performs. Great buy IMO.

The card was running at nearly 100° Celsius that's pretty hot, granted the card will still run fine that those temperature but that is pretty hot running.

Yes... that is why i changed my cooler. As soon as you get close to 1.75v it gets really really hot!

The stock cooler on my 4870 keeps my card at a nice cool 26C at idle, but then again I do have it running at 100% fan speed.

Actually I have an HD 3870 55nm with a Thermalright HR-03-GT sink (hanging under the pcb) + 1 80mm (1 AC turbofan) fan just fits between the heatsink and core blowing air through the fins + 1 120mm 1200 rpm fan hanging under de heatsink all sucking the warm air away from the core and the pcb).

$150 puts it in GTX260 Core 216 territory

Probably because people would be OC them to 1GHZ with ease and everybody in the world would want one. The rest of ATI's line up wouldn't stand a chance.

What application did you use to set your GPU voltage at 1.75v?

You have to flash you card with the Asus top bios then you go and download Asus smartdoctor and use that to change the voltages. The problem though is that it doesn't support xfire for voltage increases. Thus you are going to have to wait for a pencil mod if you plan on xfire.

Edit, I think you can OC your cards to 850/875 with stock voltages. But you are going have to use rivatuner. Look up on google about how to overclock a 4770 and it will tell you what you need to do to make rivatuner see your card (just edit a config file).

What the crap? By software you can change volts from 0.9v-1.3v. You'd better prove your point with screenshots and pics of your cooling, because I am almost sure a value like 1.75v means instant-frying.

I noticed this as well.

Omega explain yourself and post some screen shots.

Right now I doubt you were able to get your voltage to 1.75v with the Asus Top bios using the "SmartDr." tuning software.

I doubt it. I have an Accelero Twin Turbo that I use for another card. It is way to big for the HD4770. HD4770 is a little more than 2/3 the size of HD4850 reference card.

Oh, my bad. I meant 1.175 (I have had it up to 1.225 O_O).... But my card just crapped out on my some how e_e Black screen, no lights, nothing.... I am going to bake it in the oven and see if that does anything >.> If not, then I am going to need a new card e_e *insert emo comment here*

This is the second card I have gone through!!!! God I am abusive to my parts >.> Right now I got myself an old x300 (which comes up as an x600 ?) and it lets me play CSS rather well but I cannot play anything else too well
