For a little of both performance/cash. HD 4890 / GTX 275, There both very good cards.

Lowest (But not the worst!!)
HD4850 is the best bet, for only $10 more than the HD4770 might as well get the 4850 (In the TOP 10)

4870x2 beats it in some just like always to close to justify spending and extra 150, plus eyes cant tell framrate past the sync of your monitor anyway, so 30 and 60 fps with 4aa are reasonable on the top 3 cards, my 4850 x2 @745-1080 clocks a 14000+ vantage mark, click my gallery link where the scores posted, save 300 buck even on that one. No game today needs 8aa anyway unless u got a 30"2500.1600 monitor you dont even need a 295

That extra $150.00 would get you 15,000 points per day in Folding @ Home. Try that with the 4870x2...;)

At the same price, I would rather have the 4870x2 than the GTX295, I just havent had a good time with nvidia drivers, and the nvidia control panel is bland and nonworking/buggy (tested with 9800GX2)

The 280 is still being sold in the uk albeit it is not a bang for buck card and i think it should be included in the chart like the hd4850 x2.

Well, ATI/F@H needs to be fixed on that measure.
1. ATI HD4870X2 = GTX295 (To close to call imho)
2. HD4850X2 2GB
3. HD4850X2 1GB
4. GTX285
5. HD4890 XXXOC (1.2Ghz Core clock)
6. GTX275

7. GTX260 216
8. HD4870
9. GTX260 192
10. 1st Generation HD4850
11. GTS250
12. 2nd,3rd Generation HD4850
13. HD4770
14. HD4830
15. 9800GT

The bolded cards are iffy... drivers could affect performance alot.

Fastest video card would be the Asus GTX295 Limited Edition 4GB (only 1000 will be made). It will be two GTX285's 2GB sandwiched like the 295, with the Device#ID of the 295, so that drivers will be compatible.

Would a "fastest budget video card" be able to be included as well? Not all builds need a card better than a 9600GT/HD 4670...
