Hi so i just used a copy of vista my friend gave to me and installed and everything is running great with no probs. Except for 1 thing when im palying games like counter strike i get random 2 sec lag spikes now. Before i had xp and it didnt do this I:
1. Made sure both my firewalls werent blocking the ports on steam and hl2(css)
2. Checked the driver which is update

Im using a linksys wireless g pci adapter.

Im fresh outta ideas to fix this and its getting really troublesome...........\
turns the corner goes for the kill...lags out and comes back dead...... :shadedshu

can you be plugged directly into the router? I'd recomend a CAT 6 cable between the PC and router and also one between the modem and router if you have them (I only had a short one, so I dropped it between the modem and router and it cut my latencey a bit) - WiFi is not all the gamer friendly I've heard, though I never had an issue with it. Also, open the resource monitor and see what going on for network useage while gaming, sometimes apps get a bit greedy with the bandwidth.

EDIT: or try Windows 7 instead :p

This is a fairly common problem if u use wireless on Vista.

I think the problem is caused by WLAN AutoConfig.

If you google the problem there are several fixes out there. I fixed it by installing Vista Anti Lag (VAL). This worked great for me, and its really simple. If you google it you will be able to find it to download.

Hope this helps
