Using A TV As A Second Seperate Monitor

Hello all.

I have a ATI Radeon X800 Pro and currently have recently hooked up a tv to see what I can fool around with. It's hooked up by composite right now, but if I can do what I want to do, I'll upgrade to component.

Right now, it just mirrors what's on my main monitor. However, with it as it is, the screen size, etc won't adjust to get a (relatively) clear image on the screen. Is there any way to either set the tv as a second monitor where I can independantly adjust the settings, or is what I got going to be the best?

Thanks,

Matt

i think tv's don't handle pc resolutions very well so u'll be able to play games n movies. but reading text would be different story. maybe with one of those new high definition tvs u can do what u want?

*nods* I realize that I won't be able to read most text, mostly looking for watching video, etc.

However, the boot screens are incredibly clear on the tv, but once the OS hits and the image gets too big, its not that clear.

My guess is its becaues the resolution on my main monitor is so much higher than TV resolution. Hence why I was wondering if there's a way to set it up as a second monitor (so I can change the resolution, etc).

try looking around a bit in catalyst control center if you've got it installed - there might be a setting in there. Otherwise you could just keep changing your resolution every time you use your TV.

Heh, I was kinda hoping to avoid that.

I'm also kinda wondering how to do it.. but now I'm running my PC off an 29" TV.. and it's damn hard to see the text on it even with the resolution set to 800x600.. minimum! :(

I can set my resolution lower in Catalyst control center on certain refresh rates than the 800x600 in display properties, which makes it a bit clearer. You can use the magnifier to make text bigger - but that's only really useful in word processing I guess, not for gaming. Games don't look too bad overall on my 21" TV.

I couldn't find any way of getting two screens with the same picture to show different resolutions - I'd guess there is a programme somewhere out there...

I guess the easiest way of changing the resolution every time would be to use that little ATi control thing in the taskbar for quick changing but even that is getting made more complex by ATi so you have to go through menus. Think I'll just stick to my monitor, only 4" difference.

By default, the drivers will drive the same resolution through your TV as your monitor unless the monitor is higher than 1024. If it is, then the TV runs at 1024, and the screen pans with the cursor (this is true for a cloned display that has the same lower resolution cap). As for clarity, you can try using deflicker in the Catalyst control panel for the TV.

Yeah, I have done that. I was hoping to get rid of the panning somehow.
