It will but the gtx 260 will be seriousley bottle necked by that pentium D and 1Gb ram, i would reccomend getting a newer 775 board and cheap core 2 and at least 2Gb ram before you go and invest in a gtx 260

Basically you won't be able to play many games your Pentium D won't be able to run, no matter how great the rest of your system is.

Depending where your from i do have a Gigabyte GA 965P DQ6 i could sell.

I had a Pentium D running on that, overclocked very very nicely with that too :)

EDIT: also have a stick of DDR2 667Mhz

psu is fine, if you can, upgrade your ram and that will help, just wondering whether a low end core 2 would fit in that motherboard even a 2ghz core 2 would beat your pentium D

Intel E7400 or AMD Phenom II X2 550 fit beter for this card?

easy and simple answer yes. They both would be better then the PD but it still would be bottleneck but not as bad.

Definitely better then the Pentium D, and if you Overclock that E7400 it should get rid of the bottleneck by a good amount.

Phenom is also a good pick, but i don't think it would OC as well as the E7400 would.

get the card, then slowly upgrade the rest of your PC as you can afford to

the phenom is a good clocker but the e7400 will get higher unless your running them on LN2 the e7400 will get higher but if you did run them on LN2 the Phenom would kick the shit out of it  but both would be a great choice ~3.8-4ghz is possible on both of them and clock for clock they are about the same

by bottleneck we mean that the cpu is to slow to handle what the gpu is capable of so even if the card can do high to medium the cpu is to slow to allow that

the phenom II maybe cheaper and will allow better upgrade options, the E7400 is about the same as far as performance goes

a better buy overall than a new gpu is to get new ram, mobo and cpu even something cheap
