DFI 790GX Issue

Its a very nice paper weight however when I boot it (with a gfx card or not) it fails to POST giving a code 26 error.

This started after I did a first boot (with the same hardware) and all seemed normal, I entered BIOS, looked about before I hit f10 (so left again) and killed the power after it got through the reboot cycle and back to looking for boot devices. Also all the hardware listed below boots fine on a MSI K9A Platinum.

Does anyone have an idea whats wrong? I've tried clearing CMOS, (normal and fully discharging the board), also tried it without the HD2600XT and I get the same result without a graphics card in place (also tried both PCIe ports). HALP?

Shutdown the machine with the K9A in it, put it on the DFI board to test it. After it failed I moved it all back to the K9A board again to make sure everything worked (and it did).

*The K9A had a working boot on Windows (and a harddisk) and gets to desktop fine.

which 790GX board? DFI have at least 3

and which PSU? you have a different one in your specs to what you say for the new system, did you test with both? cant rule out a PSU being DOA.

Ye, well spotted btw. Checked the system on the K9A with new PSU to rule it out, seems to be fine under load from boot, and a quick 10min game of CSS.

Also its a DFI LanParty-JR 790GX M2RS (mATX).

The board has three power connectors: 20+4 main ATX, 4+4 CPU power (top right) and the floppy power near the PCI-E slot. Are all connected?

tried with just one stick of ram, closest slot to the CPU?

Whats the stock voltage for the ram? How many sticks are you trying to run?

The board is bad, I've seen it before with this model. It seems to be almost a common problem wich is unfortunate.

it runs at 1.8 I think (on the K9A) but its 'CM2X1024-6400C4' '2.10v' branded. And it did boot with whatever values it was given the first time. Also I do only have 1 stick in (and in slot1) at the moment as part of the test setup ]=

what that means is the ram is CL4 ram, probably 4-4-4-12 or 4-4-4-15 at 2.1V, but defaults to 5-5-5-18 or 5-5-5-5-18 for compatibility, since boards default to 1.8V

In other words, whatever you paid extra for the CL4 ram has gone to waste, since you never manually set timings/voltages.

My advice, is to find a stick of ram the board boots with, and then set the voltage to 2.1V and try again.

Also as I said the board booted with the same memory before, why would it now decide it doesn't like it/ the memory doesn't like the board?

the boards can be fussy with ram that doesnt operate at 1.8v natively, sometimes the sticks of ram have to be in the right order, sometimes it only boots with one stick, sometines with two, random things like that.

It could have detected a failed boot (failed OC, as they call it) and booted with some 'safe' underclocked settings as well.
