I wiped my new laptop clean, and I've been trying to find a driver that works for this.

I'm running Windows 7 RC1 x64, and I have tried tons of drivers for Vista x64, and they error out saying it's the wrong OS. I've tried running them in compatibility mode, too.

Also, I have tried the nvidia drivers straight from nvidia themselves for W7x64, and they only install the HD Audio driver.

Is there any hope!?!?

Yes I did, and like the one from HP for Vista x64, it only wanted to install the HD Audio driver, and not the display driver :banghead:

Is the 105M in the .inf?

There are almost 50 different 105M's in the INF. I tried just the driver installation, and it gave me that error, and whenever I try to use the INF's with a manual driver update through Device Manager, it gives me a wrong OS error :(

Maybe I'm getting mixed up. I have like 6 different drivers (different releases, 32 and 64 bit, vista and 7). I'm gonna delete them all and try the one directly from LaptopVideo2GO later (can't for about 2hrs, I'm at work).

I think the problem is going to be trying each one of the 105M INF's until one works :(

I just reinstalled Vista. There are no quick fixes at the moment. However, I just had an idea. It may or may not work, but I'd like your input.

I could flash my GeForce G 105M to a vanilla nVidia G 105M instead of an HP subvendor, and then I should be able to use nVidia drivers instead.

If I don't do that, then I'll have to wait until HP releases Windows 7 x64 drivers.

I would imagine you are gonna have trouble finding drivers for Windows 7! Best of luck.

I always stay away from new OS's.

I've been using Windows 7 RC1 since the day after it came out on 4 different machines, and this is the first time I have run into a problem, and it's not their fault, it's HP's fault for forcing the use of their own modified display drivers.

That sounds like a decent idea. Wouldn't really have to do anything but modify the vendor sting, afaik.

No good. "BIOS reading is not supported on this device." I might post over in the GPU-Z section to try to find some other way to get a hold of the BIOS off this card.

just ran into the same problem on my new DV3t with GeForce G 105m, its an easy fix
try to install the drivers you have... it fails... thats ok.
during the failed install, it left the extracted files in a folder.
go to device manager, update the driver, and point it to the folder that installer created.

hope that helps.

I broke apart my WD Passport 320GB because those HDD's they put into the HP's (5400RPM ones) are PAINFULLY slow and actually rumored to only spin at 4200RPM. I'm gonna swap em out and I'll try Windows 7 first with your fix.

Nice ride! :)

OK I realized that I had already tried doing that thrillhov. This is the error I get:

If I try to "Pick from a list of device drivers" and point to that folder, I get 27 different "NVIDIA GeForce G 105M" options. I have tried the first 5, and I get this error:

NVIDIA lists these drivers as compatible with the 105M:

GeForce Release 186 for Notebooks WHQL NVIDIA Recommended 186.03 June 9, 2009

GeForce Release 185 for Notebooks WHQL 185.85 May 7, 2009

GeForce Release 185 for Notebooks 185.81 April 30, 2009

I'm trying the 185.81's now.

I named it "NVIDIA Geforce G 105M HP" because when I pointed device manager to the driver, it did not show 1 device, it showed just as many as it did before.

And to top it all off, Windows encountered a problem: The driver selected for this device does not support this version of Windows.

I am currently using the RTM, and I used the latest NVIDIA drivers for the Geforce G 100M notebooks on Windows 7 64 from NVIDIA's web site. It's still not working for me :ohwell:

The one thing I did notice was that all of the other entries for the Devices entry follow 0X0000AA, while mine was 000X000 (0 representing a number, and X representing a letter). Other than that, I have no idea what's going wrong :banghead:
