How hard would it be to push my 4870 to 900+MHz Core?

Details: 4870 1GB, reference cooler and bios, reference clock speed is 750MHz, brand is Sapphire.

I know I can go to about 800-825MHz but haven't tried any means of going higher.

you need to get a aftermarket cooler first and volt-mod it even then it is not guarantied. I would sell it and get a decent 4890 if I were you though.

i have a sapphire 4870 1g with a mcw60 waterblock my max core speed at stock voltage is 870mhz.but my other 4870 (rma) (same brand ,model) max at 835mhz so even with a volt mod 950 seem impossible to catch.

Sounds like I can't do much without a new cooler... I was hoping I could just edit the fan speed high enough with a bios to get enough cooling.

So basically... by trying to increase fan speed and voltage a bit, if the voltage thing is still practical that is... I can't get that extra 75-100MHz?

You have a 48701gb, if you have the Volterra equipped card you will be able to adjust voltage by software. There was just a thread on it a few days ago. I'm betting your card can do it, if so, watch your temps, feed it some more volts and see how it does, probably will have to bump the fanspeed if you do this though.

If your card is a reference PCB HD4870, then you don't need to do any BIOS editing to OC/OV or even change fans speeds on your card.

That can all be done with Rivatuner (latest version is 2.24).

Overvolting can be done via Rivatuner with a simple Windows command line, but for first timers VoltageFactory 1.10 is a little easier to use.

Good luck.

i can head my Sapphire 4870x2 to 850@Core and 1050@Ram without any Voltmods
only using rivatuner to raise the core/ram values, atleast it´s watercooled...... :D

When it comes to flashing with the Radeon Bios Editor... is there a way to have the fan always run at a same set speed (such as 40-60%)?

Yes, it's best to use Rivatuner or ATT to control fan speeds.

You can change it in the BIOS, but then you're stuck with it, unless you reflash back to the old settings, or use Rivatuner/ATT to readjust the speeds.

In the "Use look up table" method, you'd set the "Fan speed (%)" values all to the same value you want.

Save the BIOS, then just reflash the card.
