Monitor start up

Hey all ,, nice to meet you all , hope you may be able to help me , my pc is starting up but recently the monitor has not been starting up every time and now its not starting up at all, can any one help me pls. carillon ac1 2gig 256mb ram, ati graffics ... any body pls

The monitor is 7 years old , and im using windows xp wit a p4 chip set .the monitor is working , but is showing <no signal input>, so im suspecting its not the monitor, i had this problem the other day and someone asked me if id removed the ram chips and yes i did . he advised me to re fit them and wala it worked . but now thats not the case . so ?

i can say that my ram dose need up grading as it is under pressure when using v dj program. and its only recently iv added some software that putting the pc under presssure. but surly the monitor should get priority when it comes to start up

It might be the CPU. I had a bent pin on a Pentium 4 Northwood CPU once that caused this problem. Maybe take it out and check?

i did remove the fan that sit on top of the p chip and clean it out as it was quiet manky, but also cleaned off a pasty substance that was between the fan and chip, could that b of any inportance

Yes that makes a huge differance...it sounds like you removed the the CPU thermal paste...please stop using the PC and reapply some thermal paste so you don't fry the CPU.

im no tech or pro when it comes to this kinda stuff i must say , iv had the pc 7 years and never once had an issue with it, as it is i am on a mac book pro writing to ye, is their a way i could link this mac book to my pc to see if i can diagnose the problem , call it a stupid suggestion but really i need to solve this problem

I feel like an idiot,, il be getting paste in the morning hopefully ,,,, i now just hope i have not fried my cpu.... jeasus......... Thanks everyone for the help,, il be back;->

Yes just go to a PC shop or maybe even WorstBuy(bestbuy) and get some thermal paste...i recommend a ceramic base ,mostly because your not very techy and ceramic based thermal paste is non conductive and works great.

Put a rice sized amount on the CPU (you better keep it in the socket) and just put the heatsync fan back onto the CPU and attach. There are better methods of applying the paste but again it maybe best you just leave the CPU in its socket.
