no mater how it will turn out in 6 years, the weird thing is they are telling customers not to buy anything now, but wait instead :D

6 yrs time 2015? Hay not only will we have 570 teraflop graphics cards we'll also have hoverboards & flying cars :laugh: Think this ceo blokes been watching to many movies:roll:

As for comparing a Ti4600 to a GTX295 heres a cupple of interesting stats i found.

Ti4600: Max processing power: 76 Gigaflops

Ti4600: Top 3Dmark2001se score on futuremark: 22651

GTX295: Max processing power: 1788 Gigaflops/1.788 Teraflops

GTX295 : Top 3Dmark2001se score on futuremark: 135462

I say 570 times faster in 6 years= he was smoking pot
6 years = 72 months
moore's law applies to 18 months
72/18 = 4 "doublings"

n * 2 = twice as fast
n * 2 * 2 = four times as fast
n * 2 * 2 * 2 = eight times as fast
n * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 = sixteen times as fast

I agree, he was smoking pot.

That's less than 6 times faster (5.98). :|

They'd be doing good to match that. :laugh:

The speed at which technology develops accelerates over time, so the gains will be huge... 570 times faster though? Doubtful.

Well, technology exploded since the industrial revolution... in ~150-200 years we've made more techological advancements since the entire human race before us, changing the way we live our lives every 10 years or so as opposed to every few hundrud years.

I believe Moore's Law is more like "Moore's Morning Tea-Time Thought" since it's impossible to predict what will happen today or tomorrow. Maybe 3 days from now engineers at Intel will come up with something that will exponentially increace computing power—like a way to run processors at 50GHz while retaining the same power draw.

Comparing benchmarks that is based on the entire system isn't the way to go. The statement is GPU specific.

True, that 135,462 score was on a Pentium 3 at 6586 MHz. The point is, Mr. Huang statement isn't even close to reality.

The GPU circle is around 8 months per generation. So, it's 72/8 = 9 more generations.

How in the arctic subzero hell did they get a P3 running at 6586MHz?

I question that number. In the details of the benchmark, it has 6586######## MHz. I think the app didn't detect the clockspeed correctly.

remember what they said about CPU's about 10 years ago? they said we will have 10Ghz CPU's and that was supposed to happen a year or two ago

Yeds of course but at that time they didnt know that t was able to produce multicores cpu.
So a 10 gigs single core could it be equivalent to 2.5 gigs quadcore? ;)

In a scientific experiment where the core speed and # of cores are the control group and everything else is kept constant (same hardware, same cache, same cpu arcitecture, etc etc etc)... yes, but only in an application that supports 4 threads. In a single thread application, the 10GHz single core would win no contest.

The 10 GHz processor would be slightly faster too because symmetrical multithreading (SMT) required for quad-cores requires a great deal of overhead. With SMT, it would only be as fast as the slowest core because it has to complete one round of tasks before it can proceed to the next round.

Simply put, the only time the 10 GHz processor wouldn't be better is if something causes that 10 GHz to lock up. The quad core would still have the equivilent of ~7.5 GHz of power in the same scenario.

I think it's good as long as the specs numbers turn out to be like that, 'cause right now we still don't have games that fully using a quad-core, or able to get out 300% FPS from a triple-sli, or triple-crossfire setup.

You guys needs to read more news:
http://www.ciol.com/semicon/biz-wat...u-tsmc-deal-on-28-nm-logic-ics/28809124257/0/

TSMC = GPU ICs

Intel will release an Octo-core in 2012 (using 22nm). And in 2022 processors will be 4nm !

Intel's plans:

4nm will means at least 32 cores on one chip (64 at best).

On actual comparison it would means 44 cores:
22nm = 8 cores
4nm = 44 cores (5.5x smaller than 22nm)
