It WILL make breakfast. New archetecture sounds interesting, but it's too soon to be really interesting.

Yep, we have the R870 refresh first, which I imagine will come Q1 or Q2 2010.

Wishful thinking maybe ? next summer/autumn ? not until at least 2011 maybe even 2012 I would think. Why would they even be contemplating HD6*** when they have just released the HD5 series?

As for the OP this has to be moved to general nonsense, this is pure speculation, made up rubbish imo and not worth the forum space its taking up.

We will see the next generation of ATi cards before next Christmas. You can hold me to that statement. There is plenty of forum "space" to go around.

sorry to inform you but the HD6Xxx has been in minds if not on paper well before this.

Furthermore, I feel there is a stong possiblility of a team of ATI R&D guys (even if its two guys in a shed on milk crates for chairs) drawing up ideas for the HD7's;)

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
Not many pepel remember the interview ATI did where the said a GPU takes 2-3 YEARS from idea to product. So I imagine that the 6000 series is already being evaluated for the next die shrink and performance expectations. There are die limitations, PCB, memory, heat, power and other considerations to go into a GPU, same as a CPU. They probably have thier own internal software that uses their cards to accelerate the design and testing of a virtual GPU. For example they have to consider the trace length at high frequencies, if a trace is long and sits close to a set that are running the same speed, noise will be introduced at higher voltage, but certian voltage will be required for clean signal, and then also time in flight for the data to go from one part of the chip to another. A awsome idea poorly implemented is still a fail, P4 was supposed to be the cats meow, but failed hard due to die limitations and lithography issues. It still got released though, as they had no alternative.

I didnt say its not in the pipeline, course it is, although theres a difference between knowing that ATI have a roadmap and paying attention to any old crap you come across on the interwebs that is obviousley just clutching at straws to

They do this with everything, consoles to, expect consoles actually come out at a good time frame, PC hardware not so much. You could go out a get the fastest, most powerful card out, and in about a week a prototype for the new series will be shown. It gets old. The thing that i have always envied about gaming consoles was the time spans, not having the PS3 be released and a couple days later have the PS4 be dangled in my face is something i enjoy. As a person who doesn't have much money and only wants to have a great gaming experience, consoles are starting to seem like the viable platform.

I absolutely love hardware, but as i try and work my way up to a top end rig, newer and better things are coming out every damn month and i just keep lagging behind, its just not seeming like a reality to me, more like a dream.

it seems fudzilla is saying the next Radeon series will have a completely new architecture(in response to fermi most likely, duh) and is codenamed Hecatoncheires.

http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15891/1/

Correct. The next line-up will consist of new architecture. The only thing is it isn't just because of nVidia's developments. There's something else to it. Once it comes out, you guys are going to say "Oh, that makes sense." I'm proud of the company's dedication. By the way, Fudzilla isn't always correct with their information. In fact, they get a lot of misinformation and post it as fact. Take their posts with a grain of salt.

I still not seeing your issue. It is the nature of the beast. When PS3 came out, I saw 5 different sites almost immediate post their version of the PS3 slim. Now that it is out their are people already talking about the PS4. I think you are right that this is too early to be talking about 6000 series since ATI has stated they will stick to their 2 year cycle (I think it was 2). This is smoke from Fudzilla and I think it should be ignored.

You should wait for the 5770 and 5750 to drop the price on your 4870 and get a second one. Then, you will have some of the top graphics possible.

Nice naming... Would of liked to see Dragon II platform. Somehow that suited AMD very very well I think. Although, this is GPU...

But even if you saw all those PS3 Slim concepts, it's not like the hardware was completely different. The console makers have also said they are going for a 10 year life cycle, so its not like the PS4 will become a reality and time soon. But i see what you're saying.

Why would they even be contemplating HD6*** when they have just released the HD5 series?

Depends on who you're referring to as 'they'.

If that's Fudzilla, then well, 'contemplation' is their bread and butter. Talk of 'RV870' (now known as Cypress) began almost weeks after RV770 was launched.

If that's AMD, then they don't contemplate anything until a month before they're ready to launch something new.

I do not understand why they must build a new GPU every time goes out a new version of DirectX.

Vista DirectX10 Ati 4xxx series, nvidia GT200
Win7 DirectX11 Ati 5xxx series, nvidia GT300

I understand that technology progresses faster but changing GPU every year seem exaggerated for me.

We can not keep a graphics card for one year.
