Booting From CD Problem

Hey everyone. I've got another problem on my hands.
I was trying to reformat my hard drive today, and I had everything backed up, etc. When I tried to boot, I hit F10 for the boot menu and selected the CD drive. My computer booted up into the OS on my drive, not the CD. Figuring I should just have to change some settings, I set the CD as the first boot device, then the hard drive. Still didn't work. After trying several other things, including disconnecting my hard drive to try and see if it would still try to boot from it (which it did), I decided to come here and ask.

So... Does anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong with my computer?

Make sure the CD drive is working correctly by loading the OS and putting in a disk to make sure it reads right.

I just realized that it's not, which is really weird, considering that I burned a DVD with it about 15 minutes before this problem occurred.

I'll check to make sure all of the cabling is connected in case something came loose.

Checked the cabling. Everything looks like it should work, but it's still not.

The DVD I burned had some backup stuff of mine on it, and I'm trying to load my Windows XP install DVD.

Weird thing is that the DVD I burned apparently burned properly (according to MagicISO), but when I inserted it into my laptop, it showed up blank.

Sounds like your drive is shot and you'll have to get a new one. :(
