33% of your dual core CPU = 90%+ on an atom.
I can get 5-10% CPU usage on my old 4000+ dual core setup properly with CCCP, thats less than one third the CPU power yours is taking. its somewhat hard to do a direct comparison unless we have the same media file, however.

please, dont assume that K-lite is "designed" for HD, when in fact its just using good old FFDSHOW and one of the most common players out there.

K-lite has incompatibilities and conflicts out of the box (so to speak). CCCP does not.

why tweak for performance and compatibility, when codec packs out there offer the same performance and problem free experience from the start? they use the same player and codecs, its just that ones actually tested properly...

Because you can do more, make the picture quality better, ect by actually configuring things that work fine. The lazyness on a computer is quite ridiculous. Everybody wanting fresh install i do nothing stuff.

And i dont see the point really in high quality anime. I used to watch cartoons on a tube and it looked fine. What i do care about is 1080p movies and thats all i want. I download because i dont have a blu-ray player. I probably dont see a problem because i dont use subs.

Were not talking about accelerating, were talking offloading. If it wasnt using GPU power to play this 1080p blu-ray video id be lagging balls like i used to on my 3000+
As far as looking it's best, my gfx driver and video player tweaks take care of that. I'm not against tweaking. I'm only against tweaking when a solution is present that offers the same or better results with no tweaking.

Accelerating and offloading are the same thing. ffdshow DOES NOT do it. It is pure cpu decoding. No if, ands or buts. It does not use the gpu to decode at all, under any circumstances. Your cpu is doing absolutely 100% of the decoding of that movie if you are using the ffdshow video filter.

And you may not see the point in high quality anime, but I do. It's one of the many things I like. I prefer the highly styled subtitles that blend perfectly with, and translate things like signs and such in the background. K-Lite has difficulties with some of these. Again, I can fix it, by why should I, when CCCP does it correctly out of the box?

I've even gone so far as starting to do my own styled subs for my BD rips. Haven't finished a script completely yet, as it's very time consuming, but I'm working on a couple. These are English sub on English movies tho, so there won't be any sign translation or anything like that. Just better looking subs for those times the noise needs to be kept down.

I also need the flawless playback of CCCP because I sometimes hardcode those subs for my iPhone using avisynth and mediacoder with the CUDA plug-in.

If it wasnt, i wouldnt be using it or any of my other computer buddies for HD playback. Ive used it since i had a POS system that couldnt handle HD and a GPU that could. Why tweak? Well why have water cooling? To get more out of what i have...duh. And im not against a little fiddling to make visual quality better even though it isnt necessary most of the time.

Oh and the Atom in question IS dual core  Well the one i want anyways.

If it was pure CPU doing it then this movie on my old Athlon 3000+ at 2.8ghz would still lag and with a capable GPU it dosent. That rig was the soul reason why a friend pointed me in the direction of K-Lite.

BTW movie was 30 days of night blu-ray. For anybody wanting to know. It was the only movie back in the day that could lag me out REAL bad until i got GPU acceleration goin.

PP, look it up yourself. ffdshow does not accelerate video AT ALL. This is not opinion, but 100% verifiable fact.

And none of that changes the fact that the CCCP is more accurate and has less conflicts than Klite. Klite may serve your needs, but that doesn't mean it's the best option for HD.

But do note, DXVA is supposedly being worked on for it. That will indeed be a great day, but that also means that CCCP will have acceleration, and still won't have the filter conflicts that kLite has.

to add to this...

The only, and i repeat ONLY ways to get hardware acceleration, is the following:

1. MPC-HC in EVR renderer, with NO codecs installed for H264 (internal codec using DXVA, cant do deblocking or subtitles)

2. same as above, with windows 7 built in codecs: works fine 99% of the time, but craps out on high profile H264 files - it cant revert to software mode when hardware isnt supported.

3. Cuda (nvidia only) through coreAVC - best of the bunch, but has issues with interlaced filse.

you can tell if you're getting hardware acceleration in MPC-HC, because it shows "DXVA" in the bottom corner. if you dont see that, you're in software mode. end story.

its all there in the thread in my sig (last link) but here it is again anyway
2-6% CPU on an athlon 64 4000+ vs 40%.
