hello, not sure if this is the right forum but anyway, im going to buy the HD5870 and the silverstone fortress but i have heard that the HD5870 is bigger than previous models and people have warned about its size.

So basically does anyone know if the HD5870 will fit into the silverstone fortress case or have any ideas on if it will or not, any responses are greatly appreciated, thanks.

Fortress FT02 not listed on the companys website yet

and the raven listed on the companys website

this is from the companys website http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_contents.php?pno=FT01

FT01 can support 10.5” or 26.67 centimetres consumer level graphics cards.
The support for this type of cards does not require HDD cage to be removed.

FT01 can support 12” workstation level graphics cards.
To support such long cards, the middle HDD cage must to be removed
.

Graphics card length reference:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 according to many websites is only 10.5" (this is with the reference cooler other cards may vary in size)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 is physically shorter, measuring only 9.5 inches in length (this is with the reference cooler other cards may vary in size)
NVIDIA Quadro FX5600 / AMD FireGL V8600/8650 - 12" or 30.48 centimetres
NVIDIA GeForce GTX280/260 - 10.5“
NVIDIA GeForce GTX285 - 10.5" ("size according to XFX'S specs" other cards may vary in size[/COLOR]
NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX/9800GTX+ - 10.5“
NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT/9600GT/GTO - 9"

AMD Radeon HD 4870/4850 - 9 "
AMD Radeon HD 4870X2 - 10.5 "
AMD Radeon HD 5870 = 11" or 27.94 centimetres "size according to asus's specs" other cards may vary in size
AMD Radeon HD 5970 = 12" or 30.50 centimetres "size according to XFX'S specs" other cards may vary in size

From silverstone's website

If an expansion card is longer than 10.5", the middle HDD cage needs to be removed, please refer to the Q&A section for more information.

Im getting the ft01 model. It looks like it should be fine then because even if it is 12" then all i have to do is remove the middle HDD cage which should be fine as im only putting in two hard drives. Thanks madmax for your reply and time.

I don't know about the Silverstone, but I can guarantee that it will fit in a Coolermaster HAF 922 case - I know, because I've got one and it's very deep, taking the largest cards with ease. :D I got this case specifically because it'll take large graphics cards without interference.

You could go even larger and get the HAF 932.
