G.Skill Intros Falcon II Series SSDs

G.Skill announced the Falcon II family of SATA solid state drives (SSDs). This new line of SSDs brings with it support for the Windows 7 TRIM command feature, which improves performance by reducing file fragmentation using clever ways to allocate data on the flash modules. Speaking of which, like its predecessor, the NAND flash technology of Falcon II is of the multi-level cell (MLC) type. The NAND flash controller in use is Indilinx ECO. It comes in 256 GB (model: FM-25S2I-256GBF2), 128 GB (FM-25S2I-128GBF2) and 64 GB ( FM-25S2I-64GBF2) variants. They come in the usual 2.5" form-factor, have 64 MB of DRAM cache memory, and under 0.2 ms of access time. The read/write speeds on offer are 220 MB/s (read) and 150 MB/s (write). Backed by a two year company warranty, the SSDs come with an MTBF of over 1.5 million hours. Its pricing is yet to be known.

Looks pretty decent but the warranty should be better, especially with the MTBF being so high. Are the new ECO controllers cheaper and slower or am I reading too much into that? Also, it is good to see them get the access time below 0.2, quite an accomplishment as everyone else had a bit higher than intels access times.

I would like to know the prices on these bad boys. G.Skill should (hopefully) be on the affordable end of the SSD market.

I think G.skill is just milking the market now. These are the exact same drives as regular falcons, but have just been flashed with a different trim compatible firmware. :shadedshu

Patriot Torx and Corsairs P256 (or whatever it is) have better reads and writes than intels, until you get Intels enterprise drives and I think the new extreme drives.
