Huh? I'm not following, what's not supported in Vista, quad crossfire?

Thanks for the help, but I'm afraid JrRacinFan & wolf beat you to it.:ohwell:
I have always understood the concept (have been a technician for decade, but am no modder... well wasn't anyway, but things are changing;)), but never seen a... efficient way to splice the slave PSU upon boot w/o having to manually do it.
It's my first time seeing the ATX extenders, never had seen a female ATX connector before today.

I don't know what you are on about I have technified since 1992 so there buddy. Anyway you only mentioned to ask of multigpu as quad crossfire is already parallel.:banghead:

 You're still losing me?
I was just saying I understand how it works thanks, but just never saw the adapter before, that's all, not saying you don't know or anything.;)
I don't understand what you mean by: "...you only mentioned to ask of multigpu as quad crossfire is already parallel." If you mean I referred to crossfire as quad only, that's because I was asking about a setup that draws more power than most singular power supplies provide, not because I don't know that there is dual, triple and quad options. Thanks though.:)

Software Windows 11 pro x64 (Yes, it's genuinely a good OS) OpenRGB - ditch the branded bloatware!
Benchmark Scores Nyooom.
when crossfiring non-identical cards, the GPU core must match.

EG, a 4870 and 4850 can crossfire - but a 4670 and a 4850 wont work.
There was a convenient graph on page 1 that listed this.

Brands dont matter, but it can help - we have had cases of people with certain models not working in crossfire (most were gigabyte, they flashed the BIOS to fix them)

the amount of video memory available is the lowest common denominator. 1GB card + 512MB card = 512MB video ram. they do NOT add up!
SLI is the same in this regard.

Always put the fastest card in the primary slot, that way in games that dont work well in crossfire, the fastest card is doing the work.

1933 Poker:
Quad crossfire does work in vista. its XP that it wont work on.

Also, you've "techsomethinged" since 1992. good work - i've been doing it since the 80's, and some here have done it longer. Skill and time spent with hardware do not have a linear relationship.

asking for advice then arguing every step of the way seems counter intuitive.

Thanks. Finally a simple and sensical explanation of the "memory halving" situation with cards with differing amount of vram. Knew there had to be one just never came across before. Would have loved to keep one of my 4850s with my 4870 1GB but they were only 512s and I needed more VRAM for 1920x1200.

So this is not the case with SLI? Now curious...
In SLI, everything must be the same except the memory size.
So a GTX 285 + 260 SLI simply don't work.
It used to have problems when a OC edition card is paird with a standard card, or even different Bios give problems.
Not sure if thats resolved by now.

4870 1gb or another 4870x2 would be the best match. Tri-fire seems to have the best returns, from my experience.

One 5970 would = 4x4870, with less driver overhead. But as of late, I have noticed that alot of benches posted @ 950mhz on 5870, are slower than my own 4890, and my 4870 pairs, at the same gpu speeds, but with 5870 have greater memspeed. This tells me 5xxx-gen needs LOTS of driver work, and the 5970, even more so.

heh. Or maybe I coould explain better? nah...that's not it..

So, yeah, slower than my pair of 4890's, slower than my pair of 4870's, given the same clockspeeds. Just take a look at the 5xxx bench thread...noone has topped 16k in Vantage... I'm not even pushing big cpu speeds either.
