Hey guys, been having an issue with a 192sp 65nm gtx260 in a build for my friend.

Basically, when the machine posts i get blue dots/lines/squares against black bios screen with post info still visible.(it occasionally shows white boxes with short equations in them :s) It then continues to the vista loading screen and crashes before vista welcome.

Ive taken out my gtx260 and tried it with tx750w in my system, same issue.

Thought about updating/flashing bios but, as i am unaware of a method of updating with no OS, i have been unsuccessful.

I was actually running this card in sli for a while (3-5 months) in my setup so it was definitely working at one point. I though it might be an issue with pci-e 2.0 but same issues with both systems ruled this out.

Friend rig specs:
x2 715
msi 785g e45
4gb ocz 800
hx450w
500gb wd

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Also bare in mind there is no chance of rma/warranty as this is an oem nv model i got on the cheap..(i know, i know, im stupid)

tl;dr - ohh noes! Gtx260 trippin balls with blue dots and crashing no vista boot. wat do?

Since the card is on the fritz, only thing I can think of at the moment is to underclock the card. I'm very sure it's either a few graphics ram modules are fried or that there is some damage to the power phases. Normally I would tell you to RMA but this is not the case.

Try a bios underclock, that seems to be your only hope. Oh btw, Vista won't load due to a graphics driver crash. Log into VGA or safe mode if you need to use your PC.

Thanks for the quick reply! i forgot to mention that it will not even allow safe mode.

How would i go about this bios under-clock? I've not had much experience with bios OCing gpu's as i usually use driver based stuff; rivatuner etc. i imagine this process would differ per mobo but any general pointers?

Well, assuming your still able to get into dos mode with that PC, then create a backup of it's bios with nvflash. If not, find the EXACT same bios the card has on it. Post back once you find it.

Would not differ from motherboard to motherboard at all.

Oh and your welcome. :)
