I dont understand why in left4dead 1 cpu utilization is higher and i get better performance than in left4dead 2.

just 4 fun rate my cpu 0-10

i give it a 2:eek:
Maybe a bug in the game? Didn't you say you were unable to enable the multicore function in the options dialog of the game?

I can't rate it. I don't know enough about it. :)

sounds like something is up with your motherboard then, Reset the Bios to defaults, Disable that Frigging IGP, Set the Parameters for the CPU such as Multiplier and HyperTransport/Bus Speed and VCore to optimized settings (Not OVERCLOCKED) , Set the memory to the recommended timings along with VDIMM. Im not sure if newer motherboards have this or not but make sure the Video aperture is set. Im not sure what to set the Memory Mode to: Ganged or Unganged. Reseat all connections and expansion boards (PCI, PCIE) with the Power off. If Possible run Windows XP with SP3 all patched before Nvidia Motherboard drivers are installed or Windows 7 all patched before Nvidia Motherboard drivers installed (Unless if ZOTAC is good at keeping up with Motherboard drivers). With Windows XP ensure DirectX is updated to latest (August 2009 redist) ensure audio drivers are latest, ensure a proper monitor driver is installed.

Ah, Yes! Sorry I glossed over this part. It would seem there is an issue with L4D2 not recognizing your other cores. This would explain a lot!

Edit: I do know that the BIOS on my motherboard allows for disabling multi core support. Check to see if your does, and that it wasn't accidentally switched off?

I did everything except the part of installing windows again.
My monitor doesn't have a driver, http://www.lge.com/us/support/produ...=documents&targetPage=support-product-profile
If you could recommend some accurate cpu benchmarks, we can compare them.

My motherborad bios is so simple, only few options to enable virtualization and to change cpu stepping.
Maybe its a bug, in left4dead1 i can disable or enable multicore rendering.

Try using the game settings instead of the CCC settings. Also you shouldn't be that bad I had a 4890 and was scoring in the 12000 area. Never had left 4 dead drop below 60FPS.
See what happens run ATI CCC and then turn all your settings back to default. (with the exception of the fan or any overclocks you are running) Then make sure in the ATI CCC that the 3d settings are made to run from games advanced settings. I find with ATI cards that you will always get better results if you use the Games settings than if you were using the ATI CCC settings but that might just be me.
After you have it set up with that next just play with each game setting till it runs smooth. To give you some info @ 1680x1050 in L4D I was getting nothing below 60FPS wit full 8xAA and 16XAF I believe if I remember correctly.
Also depending on what your monitor can handle I would leave Vsync on you don't want to get tearing.

I always use in game settings, in left4dead 1 seems like anything like 4870 can handle this game perfectly, my cpu right now is the problem :banghead:

I was so happy that i could finally play left4dead 2 whit something better then 30-40 fps then i said it runs great:D, numbers as you asked sir:

Um, your on Vista? I am. It works fine for me. Try Catalyst 9.8. They worked the best for me before the crap that was 9.9/9.10

Yes, regrettably the 4850 got left in the cold for a few driver revisions. They took the back seat so ATi could improve the performance of the high end. It's a terrible fact that ATi driver team doesn't care or listen to customer input (CF Profiles anyone?). Constructive criticism of the disappointment I had with the 4890 purchase was scrubbed immediately from the AMD game forum.

Too bad there is little I can do after the fact. If I had known that four months after I made my purchase the 4890 would be obsolete and the decent reference (high quality) design would be discontinued dashing my hopes for crossfire.....I'm rambling.... Sigh*

As I've stated. I know absolutely nothing about post 06 AMD's. However, that GPU score is still a couple thousand points shy of where it should be. Is your MB able to clock your new chip to ~3.2-3.4GHz?

If so, do try that and see if it doesn't boost your GPU score.

Here was a result I had a while back. Keep in mind that I have four cores as opposed to three. Also, this is just a synthetic test which doesn't always jive with real world scenarios. How are the frames in L4D2 now? Your CPU is only what? 200Mhz faster than your older chip? That probably won't be enough to show a major difference.
Vantage results:

Preset "Performance"
3DMark Score P10293 3DMarks
CPU Score 10476
Graphics Score 10233

Sapphire HD4890 @ 850/975 (stock clocks)
Driver Cat 9.8

Q6600 @ 2.9Ghz

OS: Vista 64/4GB's OCZ reaper PC2-8500 @ 5-5-5-15 /520Mhz

The Phenom II 720 is way faster than the 2.1ghz Phenom X3 8450. It is 700mhz faster and it is a Phenom II with larger level 3 cache as well. It should be significantly faster.

Thanks Robert. Ya, I was referring to the 2.5Ghz (400Mhz OC) of his old CPU vs. the 2.8 of his new one.

I'm at a loss vnl7. It may just be a bum card. That happens sometimes. Maybe wait a couple weeks for the 5xxx stock to improve and pick up an 5850 if your in no rush? It should be worth the wait. I'm sorry things didn't work out so smooth. But it will. :toast:

What about trying a stronger PSU?

I thought I read that you were using adapters to power the 4890. The card consumes near 200 watts!!! I strongly suggest that you get a decent power supply with at least 20 amps per rail and two 6 pin pci express connectors. That might be why you are not getting the performance.:)

The voltages are ok, isn't it valid?
