Hey guys Black Friday is coming and I plan on purchasing a desktop wireless card. However, I do not know of any popular or well known brands that manufacture the cards. My price range is no more than $40, and has 64bit driver support for 7 and vista. currently, my netgear router has the speed of 54Mbps 802.11g, therefore there is probably no need for the card to be faster than that correct?

You might as well get a 802.11N compatible card in case you want to upgrade your router later.
Wireless N routers are cheap nowadays.

In terms of brand, I usually go for D-Link and Linksys stuff.

Most brands of wireless adapters should be fine. I have had a cheap Zonet USB adapter for several years and it hasn't skipped a beat. Routers are a different story (some have horrible firmware which can cause them to crash a lot).

As Zubasa said, I would recommend an adapter capable of 802.11n. Then you can upgrade your router later and have faster wireless speeds.

Ok, is there a difference between USB and the PCI cards?

PCI/PCIe would probably be better in general (bandwidth wise), especially for N cards. However, USB has the advantage of you being able to move it around to get better signal.

Don't get anything USB. I bought generic pci wireless g cards for $13 each and they work fine.
