about SPDIF

do I need spdif out cable if I connect spdif through my videocard or just the videocard spdif connector? my videocard doesn't have a hdmi so I am using dvi-to-hdmi adapter.

supported DVI to HDMI adaptor (not all do the audio, i have no idea how to tell what ones do and what ones dont with nvidia)

thats it. audio from the SPDIF of the soundcard should work on your HDMI device (TV, etc)

Well I bought a cheap unknown brand hdmi cable.

I wanted to clear things out, if I'll buy the spdif cable for soundcard-to-videocard, do I still need to buy and connect the spdif out cable to my TV?

I've searched and found out that ATI videocards doesn't need spdif audio cable even when its using dvi-to hdmi adaptor? is this true? sucks for nvidia :shadedshu

no, you do not need any SPDIF cable to the TV. that would negate the whole point of HDMI audio.

Nvidia are merely passing through your soundcards signal. ATI have a (realtek) soundcard built in

since you're using SPDIF constantly, i dont know what you're referring to. SPDIF is the standard for the digital audio, and not really the name for any of the cables.

The one pictured is the one you need to connect mobo/soundcard to the nvidia cards. that is all you need for HDMI audio with nvidia.

Any other cables you want named, provide pictures of.

SPDIF cables come in 2 flavrs: RCA and optical. Find out which one you have. If you are still unsure, the optical will have a red light coming from it.
it is very simple. connect the audio cable from the mobo sound to the video card. The sound will then travel from the HDMI from the video card automatically to the TV. Very simple stuff.
