i guess that doesn't really speak to say that your psu is not powerful enought mind you i have 4 hard drives, 10 120mm fans, 2 dvd burners, phenom 2 940be at 1.525v 3.9Ghz, 4 gigs of mem, the gtx 285 oc'd to 730/1580/1400(2800 effective), plus the keyboard mouse and water pumps, so 580 isn't bad for what i got installed, i use as well an es 800 from bfg, steller psu for what i payed for it. which was nothing because i won it at a lan party.

Is that 588W at the outlet or what?
If that is @the outlet, you rig is only using 470W from the PSU.
(It that PSU is an 80+ that is.)

no it's at the back of the pc on the load does not include monitors or periferals, it's 85+ so yeah it's a bit lower inside the psu but still it's not bad, thats full load as well.

Ok, so I guess I am right on that.
What I meant is that power is measured from the input end of the PSU.

You are, don't worry about it.

Simply put, GPU's do not scale power. If you do not supply the card enough juice something in game would happen bad like artifacts, crashing in intense sections, stuttering, or other parts failing during gaming such as you suddenly not being able to use DVD drive in game.

When it comes to power and your computer it is all or nothing. This is why everyone hear pushes not to skimp on the PSU. It is the heart of your computer and will bring the entire system down when it fails to perform.

Either way, if that 500W is a quality PSU there should be no problem with powering a rig with a single GTX 275.

Edit: Just to mak things more clear.
A good PSU must have overload protection which will prevent your components form being damage from the PSU overloading.
(That is if the PSU is overloading at all.)

Ok.

If your games are working = Yes, it is using all the power it needs.

If your games run like shit = No, and your PSU is probably the issue, or RAM, or corrupt files or several other things.

HEC is good in Europe and the UK... a good budget brand. I think it should do fine.
