LG Display Co., Ltd., a leading innovator of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, announced the world's first commercial launch of 3D LCD panel boasting full HD resolution. The new product is a 23-inch 3D monitor LCD panel for use with shutter glasses that delivers full HD resolution. It offers picture quality that is almost twice as crisp as HD 3D displays currently available in the market.

The panel adopts the company's proprietary technologies such as "high performance 3D exclusive controller" capable of processing more than twice as much image data as other HD 3D LCDs and "copper bus line" to improve on the resolution and picture quality. In addition, the panel is able to reproduce both 2D and 3D images, meaning that users can switch back and forth from 2D and 3D modes.

Although full HD 3D images have been developed for contents such as video games, movies and animations, 3D display products with full HD resolution were unavailable in the market. The commercial launch of LG Display's full HD 3D LCD panel is expected to help to boost development of high resolution 3D contents while allowing users to view true-to-life 3D images.

Mr. Davis Lee, LG Display's Vice President and head of IT marketing department, noted "LG Display has made a major breakthrough in the display industry race to deliver the depth and dynamic nature of 3D images. LG Display will continue with efforts to keep pace with the fast growing 3D market with leading 3D technology and products in order to create new value for customers."

The 3D display market is expected to grow at rapid pace as the industry players are shifting their focus from two-dimensional to three-dimensional technologies. The Korea Communications Commission recently announced plans to start a trial service for the world's first full HD 3D terrestrial broadcasting from the second half of 2010. A launch of trial services for 3D satellite broadcasts had been also announced earlier in Japan and the UK.

3D Displays: Based on binocular disparity, the left eye and right eye sees two slightly different views, allowing the viewer to feel the sense of depth of 3D images. Glasses used for 3D displays are largely classified into shutter glasses and polarized glasses. In the case of shutter glasses type 3D display, the signals sent by the display are synchronized with the glasses to realize 3D images. A shutter glasses typed 3D panel is generally known for a wider viewing angle and better picture quality.

So after HD its 3D HD and after 3D HD whats next?

Only thing I can't really wait for is OLED's but as far as Picture quality goes I guess just higher resolutions in 3D is the Next step?

I kind of agree with Mr. FAIL. As long as you have to wear glasses it won't be all that popular. Here's an idea. Lets get OLED LCD monitors out to retail in mass amounts, they look amazing and it's been stalled long enough. The 3D stuff is and will always be a gimmick as long as glasses have to be put on your face.

So i guess you have found a better way to trick your eyes into seeing to different images from the same source, perhaps some sort of hdmi to cranial interface adapter:laugh: you should patent that quickly.

Back on topic what kind of price range are we looking at for these things for say a 22" 1920x1080?

Yes, another reason we need more OLED's on the market. Here it is, almost Christmas and I've seen little to nothing on the OLED front once again.

I saw a nice samsung LED in a store and that was it. Was a really good deal for it as well 32" LED and 1080p for £700.

I dont know about you, but i dont need glasses or trickery to see 3d, or in fact in real time.

That aside i agree with E. So far there are no OLED screens and im tired of needing a huge ass screen that cost over a grand for 2560x1600. How bout smaller screens with higher res huh? Its obviously out there, just look at laptops with 17" screens and 1920x1200. :banghead::banghead:

No more of this 3D crap, nobody cared when it first came out with stupid looking glasses and nobody cares now. Even with Nvidias glasses that look like Oakly's with a cable.

I mean yeah for 3D but we will always need glasses unless they do something like what you see in StarTrek or something ha ha. I agree though, it is time for Organic LED (OLED) to come out and what not. Prices are low enough in LCDs that OLED can come on out.

Those are LED backlit LCD screens. Go back and look at the viewing angles and you'll see that they still suck. OLED's are only available in tiny sizes for ridiculous amounts of money.

We already sit around playing l4d 2 in a dark room with headphones that makes us look like an air traffic controller with a mic coming out of the side.

If they could make the glasses a little dorkier, I would definitely buy them...

Maybe for half life 3 they could release a pair of the gordon freeman glasses lol.

NASA uses 3D for lots of stuff..mars rovers,Recon orbiter, etc.lots of NASA cameras are in stereo.
Also CAD and other enginering programs use 3D.I think the medical folks use this too.Earth sciences also.
These things are the main market at this time.i think.

So after HD its 3D HD and after 3D HD whats next?

XHD, of course.

When they get this thing on a 30-incher, it will be interesting.

Although, it would have to be made by Dell, because I'm not giving up my 3007WFP for any price.

They're going to be filming the World Cup 2010 in 3D, so I guess the gimmick will be with us for a while yet.
