I've been running a new HIS 5970 for the past week. Performance is great vs previous the 2x4870CF setup., but I just noticed something odd in GPU-Z. the VDCCI Phase#1 temperature is zero. Other parameters seem fine. Any ideas? (gpu-z pic attached)

DX48BT2, q9650@3.3, 8G OCZ1333, hd5970, 4x500G raid10, V64HP... etc.

thx for replies

Summerdays - the sensor is enabled and "recording" current reading. stupid me, I didn't note this sensor when i put the board in.

Chaos_killa - running default clocks for the snap, temps reach 70-80's under load. Have stable "CCC" overclock at 800/1090 with temps reaching high 80's (manual fans to 45% will hold 60oC max). Drivers are still buggy and I have not yet hit it with MSI afterburner... wanted to wait a bit before upping the voltage.

i'm wondering if this is an indicator of a coming burnout?

Ah ok cool, how did you get manual fan control, it never shows up in CCC for me, and I've tried about 4 different drivers as well:confused:

manual fan

I assume you downloaed the Nov11 driver from AMD. I'm not trying to be a wise guy, but you did"unlock" ccc? should be able to just click the enable box set the speed and tie down the canary! (i'm using auto fan in the attached pic, don't need it for stock clocks)

no fan control

Chaos - Damn... that's sure is no fan control. The post suggesting a bios flash is what you do need. I have a buddy with the same problem which the flash fixed (and his is a sapphire card, XFX too?). good luck with the flash. Before flashing, If you use MSI manual fan control does it work?

still no resolution on the VDDCI temp...

@CHAOS_KILLA
You have to select drop down box to enable fan control on master GPU.
Beta and both 9.12 version have fan control if your bios supports it.

@jmallamo
There no problem on your card,its in 2d clock mode,need to run the card in 3d to see voltage,and all that good stuff.

I have just tried it, nothing happens, no fan control comes up, XFX needs to do something about their ATI cards seriously, because this is BS

Chaos, I was only able to gain fan control by flashing to a newer updated bios supplied by sapphire. No matter what driver was installed no fan control was available untill i did the bios update.

All information needed can be found here http://www.overclock.net/ati/614095-5970-bios-update-fan-control-fix.html

XFX has a newer bios for his card he just needs to check his own thread about changing the bios.

I have just tried it, nothing happens, no fan control comes up, XFX needs to do something about their ATI cards seriously, because this is BS

They did as far as i can tell. Check there site already lol.

The fan is set to ramp up and down in a certain time,7 seconds I think I saw when I was looking at it.Fan spins at 4800 RPM,it needs time to speedup and slow down,but you can change it if ya want.

Chaos - my HIS 5970 does the same ramp to the set % from 100%. I don't think you have a bad card. seems all 5970s do this. annoying, I agree!

My 2x4870 setup did not do this ramp.

yeah my HD5870 didnt do it either, I actually believe i do have a bad card, i still get WSOD (weird screens of death) and then i have to restart, the dirt 2 demo is the thing it performed well in, I mean i have updated everything i possibly could video card and motherboard bios's and the latest chipset drivers from gaytel (intel), all of the latest CCC drivers, still buggy, slight improvement when I was on 9.12 hotfix drivers. I've also tried using different pci e connectors, no difference same issues, i had put my cpu OC back to defaults because of the reason above (WSOD) and yesterday i still got crashes, Im outta options.

When you say your HIS HD5970 ramps up to 100% fan speed, you mean when you load into windows straight away, do you also get it when you change the fan speed manually, like for example, say i wanted to set the fan speed to say 50%, does it just ramp up to 100% straight after it and slowly decreases the speed back down to 50% cause thats wat mine does, i hope i explained that properly, anyways these are the basic problems i get with it.
