guys don't expect to be quick since I don't trust ordering online for a 5870 (such a rare goods), I went to local store to put an order. I have them $200 deposit, it look like to be in the neighborhood of 2 weeks.

It's not ATI driver...it's DirectX. Or rather, a combination of the two. Try updating to august 2009 update...fixed it for me, until I installed Dragon Age, which also did a directX update. Problem came back.

I would only really notice the issue the FIRST TIME an 3D app was loaded. Subsequent apps did not have the issue.

I have recorded it on video, to show XFX...they told me to RMA the cards. I did. Replacement cards, same issue. Sent those back for performing worse than 4850's(and artifacting in bios), new 3rd set of cards do it too...

I tried everything, even format/re-isntall of OS...something happens when DX is updated, and what that is, I have no idea. I do know that on a fresh install, there won't be any issues, the first time a driver is installed. Swap cards, or update driver/DX, problem starts.

I did notice it fixed after installing 9.11...but then I pulled apart the system to install in a new case, and the problem resurfaced.

In the end, it may be the driver, and how it interacts with DX...but then, why did the DX update fix the problem?

I've had the same issue in the past on an i975x and my current X38 board. Personally, all I use is ATI hardware, and I've never had any issues with the drivers or any of ATI's software . . .

IMHO, the refresh issue lies within the OS . . .

Vista seems to have a mind of it's own with montior refresh rates, it's a little annoying. As well, refresh "banding" could be a sign of a failing LCD, too.

My trick - make sure you have the correct drivers for your LCD installed, if they're available. Also, find out the exact or maxmium refresh rate of your LCD (usually listed in the owner's manual, typically 60Hz to 75Hz).

Make sure in the WIN advanced display properties that it's set properly.

If you have CCC installed and using DVI, make sure "reduce frequency on high resolution displays" is unchecked, and "use alternate DVI mode" is selected.

Then, grab Ati Tray Tools. Go into the 'refresh lock' setting, enable it, then go into customize . . . set up your screen resolution, and the correct refresh rate for your monitor and lock it in.

If certain games reduce the overall screen resolution, it'll usually force a lower refresh rate as well . . . and sometimes Vista just does it's own thing . . . I've found that simply locking the refresh rate in completely alleviates the issue. But, this also comes with a bit of a warning . . . although I've never had any issues with this tactic, it could potentially damage your monitor.

Also, make sure to disable any "vsynch" or "60Hz frequency lock" options in your games.

this is not related to refresh rates at all. its a crossfire problem.

if it was related to refresh rates, it'd still be present when only one GPU was used, and it doesnt. It also wouldnt go away when we enabled Vsync.

Probably a bit late but I'm using an X58 with two 5770s in CF, both are confirmed working because they're from two different working systems. Far Cry 2 is the only game I know for certain that flickers and it's unplayable (fps is high though), but runs perfectly with a single 5770.

Edit: Tried Far Cry 2 again on XP 32-bit and W7 64-bit, DX9 and 10 and got no flickering. Don't know what happened.

I read everyones quotes, and i have also had this flickering problem. i think i found out what it is but not sure but i'm gonna test it on more games. i was playing it on Need For Speed Shift, and got a second graphics card, so i crossfired it and played with the settings. eventually i got the same problem u guys did. its not the monitor, nor faulty chips.. its in the settings, like when u open up the ati catalst control center, just place the setting as default but keep the crossfire enabled and see if that works fine... if so, then u can start pushing it around just alittle and see if its gonna twich or flicker.... idk about u guys but i did that and came out good..
